ABC used its New York Comic Con 2026 panel to confirm a new addition to The Rookie Season 9: Troian Bellisario will recur as Stephanie \u201cStevie\u201d Monroe, a newly divorced mother of two who joins the Los Angeles Police Department.<\/p>\n

The setup pulls the show back toward its original lane. If you still think of John Nolan as the older rookie trying to rebuild his life while learning the job, showrunner Alexi Hawley says Stevie is \u201ca rookie we\u2019ve never had before\u201d and \u201csomeone who\u2019s not starting out from scratch.\u201d That puts the series back in touch with the older-rookie, start-over premise it began with.<\/p>\n\n

John Nolan is a training officer now, so the center of the show has shifted. For anyone who\u2019s missed that reinvention angle, Stevie could bring some of it back and give The Rookie a steadier emotional core after several seasons built around a bigger ensemble, twists, action-heavy arcs, and franchise expansion.<\/p>\n\n

Season 9 premieres Wednesday, January 6, 2027<\/strong>. Dul\u00e9 Hill is also coming aboard as watch commander Lt. Hughes, and the Tim Bradford-Lucy Chen kidnapping cliffhanger will carry into a two-part opener.<\/p>\n\n

ABC also has every reason to feel good about where the franchise stands. The network says the Season 8 finale drew 9.25 million viewers<\/strong>, up 4%, and that the show has now posted four straight seasons of growth with younger viewers. The same night, ABC will also air The Rookie: North<\/a>, starring Jay Ellis, with crossover appearances from Nathan Fillion, Melissa O\u2019Neil, and Eric Winter.<\/p>\n
