Ticket volumes are down by as much as 70%. About 20% of events are now resolved autonomously. Major outages have fallen by up to 45%. At that point, effort-based pricing starts to feel dated.

If you buy or sell digital services, this shift calls for action. Capability isn’t the problem anymore. Predictability is. Start with the pain point, redesign the workflow around it, and then choose the pricing model that fits: higher tiers, which 40% are using; included at no extra cost, at 39%; hybrid models, at 37%; or outcome pricing, whether that’s per case, per incident avoided, or tied to an SLA target. And 47% of providers now lean toward predictable billing.

The costs are still there. You still have model, API, cloud, data, security, and oversight costs to manage. Production can run at nearly 4x pilot levels. Vendors may reprice often. Token costs are falling. Gartner puts foundation models at $23.4 billion in 2026.

You can already see the shift across IT services and software.

        PRTG Network Monitor
        Download

        <text class="rating-score__number" content="" text-anchor="middle" transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 25 31.0837)" data-auto="app-user-score"></text>

Intelligent software is starting to rewrite how IT services and software get priced, and it’s putting real pressure on the old effort-based way of billing.
