DC Studios co-chief James Gunn gave an update today on where Batman and The Flash stand in the DC Universe, and if you’re waiting on either one, don’t expect a return anytime soon. Batman doesn’t even have a new suit designed yet, and there still isn’t an announced Flash project.

Gunn said Batman’s new suit still hasn’t been designed. The Brave and the Bold remains in development, Andy Muschietti is still attached, and the script is still being written. The movie has changed since the Batman-and-Damian Wayne setup first discussed in 2023, but Gunn says it isn’t on hold. It’s also separate from Robert Pattinson’s Elseworlds Batman.

If you were hoping Wally West might show up soon, The Flash situation is even foggier. Gunn’s answer was, “Who knows?” There’s no announced Flash project, and after 2023’s The Flash underperformed, DC seems fine waiting.

For people keeping close track of the DCU, this says a lot about how firmly Gunn is sticking to a script-first approach. He also cleared up where Xolo Maridueña fits in: according to Gunn, he’ll return as Jaime Reyes in Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to 2025’s Superman. That still doesn’t make 2023’s Blue Beetle canon, and Black Adam isn’t canon either.

The next official details will probably come in future DC Studios slate updates. For now, Gunn says he isn’t directing a live-action Teen Titans project, and no DC directing job beyond Man of Tomorrow has been announced.
