It turns off navigational help, gives you tougher enemies, more heavily rationed ammo and harder punishment if you die. This tough mode is probably a reference to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/System_Shock_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">System Shock<\/a>, a tougher game released by the same developer in 1999.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-38169\" title=\"Bioshock Infinite Motorized Patriot\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/03\/Motorized_Patriot-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/03\/Motorized_Patriot-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/03\/Motorized_Patriot-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/03\/Motorized_Patriot.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The mode is unlocked when you complete the game, but you can enter the famous &#8216;<strong>Konami code<\/strong>&#8216; to make it available if you want to play like that from the start.<\/p>\n<p>Amusingly, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/articles\/2013-03-25-you-can-unlock-bioshock-infinites-ultra-hard-1999-mode-without-completing-the-game\">Eurogamer<\/a> report, Bioshock creator Ken Levine said last year that you wouldn&#8217;t be able to do exactly that.<\/p>\n<p>The Konami code is &#8216;<strong>Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A<\/strong>.&#8217; It first appeared in the classic side scrolling shoot &#8217;em up <strong>Gradius<\/strong> in 1986, and has gone on to become an often used pop culture gaming reference.<\/p>\n<p>We will publish our full review of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bioshock-infinite.en.softonic.com\/\">Bioshock Infinite<\/a><\/strong> this week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1999 mode in Bioshock Infinite is the hardcore gamer&#8217;s choice.
