A leaked trailer for BioWare’s canceled next Mass Effect game has hit the internet, and it’s the clearest glimpse so far of what the studio was making before Electronic Arts reportedly pulled the plug during a restructuring that cut about 400 jobs, including roughly 50 at BioWare.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said the footage is real, in-engine preproduction material. It shows a former military lead meeting an Asari in a bar, then jumps through combat, planet exploration, a ship, a Krogan squadmate, and Liara T’Soni, who appears to be connected to an operation aimed at a criminal.

What comes through is a more covert, spy-leaning take on Mass Effect, which lines up with older reports about “Joplin” and Mass Effect: Universe. Follow-up reporting said the game was set centuries after Mass Effect 3, with the geth, Andromeda species, and a Krogan conflict possibly part of the story; fans online seemed pretty into the original-trilogy feel of it.

Former BioWare cinematic supervisor Tony de Waal said the team wanted “a level of autonomy and choice that no other game has been able to match,” drawing inspiration from Larian Studios and CD Projekt Red, while writer Catherynne M. Valente called it “a great game.” If you follow Mass Effect, this is the kind of leak you’ll probably want to watch online. Amazon’s TV adaptation is still in development, and outside licensing is still on the table.
