Coyotec, Entravision’s bilingual virtual radio host, landed on José 97.5 FM in Los Angeles in 2025 and started talking to Latino listeners the way local radio rarely does now: straight up about ICE raids, racism, workers’ rights, and the stuff happening in their own neighborhoods.

Entravision introduced the character in September 2025 as a solo weekend host. Not long after, Coyotec was moved onto Al Aire y Sin Permiso alongside Geraldine “GeeGee” Guzman. The company says that jump into weekday prime time helped drive a 75% increase in weekly listenership among Hispanic men ages 25 to 54.

The voice came from ElevenLabs voice-cloning tools and was modeled on Entravision Audio president Eduardo Maytorena. On air, José 97.5 FM frames Coyotec as a warm, fast-talking, working-class Latino in his 30s, with roots in Mexicali and Boyle Heights. He switches between Spanish and English, throws in slang, and leans on local references that are meant to sound lived-in, not imported from some generic script.

If you like radio that sounds local and isn’t afraid to pick a side, this is something to watch. But Entravision’s plan to take Coyotec into Sacramento, Las Vegas, and El Paso raises another set of questions, especially in an industry that, by one estimate, shrank from about 85,000 jobs in 2019 to 66,000 in 2025.

And then there’s the other part: authenticity, disclosure, and accountability, especially when a virtual host is weighing in on immigration and labor rights.

You can hear Coyotec on José 97.5 FM in Los Angeles.
