Google has open-sourced its Elephant-Goldfish Model<\/a>, or EGM, and put the plugin on GitHub<\/a> under the Apache 2.0 license<\/strong>. It\u2019s built around a design-first coding workflow.<\/p>\n

Per Google\u2019s GitHub repository, EGM doesn\u2019t send a model straight into code generation. It makes the model work through the design first<\/strong>, then defend it. The \u201cElephant\u201d holds the project\u2019s long-term memory and turns your discussions about architecture and trade-offs into a design document. After that, stateless \u201cGoldfish\u201d reviewers read the plan cold and look for ambiguity, missing assumptions, and edge cases before any code gets written.<\/p>\n\n

That adversarial setup keeps the human in charge<\/strong>. The plan has to make it through review and get your approval before implementation starts. Google\u2019s GitHub repository also includes customizable Markdown rules, subagent personas, structured review workflows, and automation for context handoff, validation loops, and design-document rendering in Google\u2019s Antigravity environment.<\/p>\n\n

If you\u2019re tired of one-shot code generation, this release looks worth a try. Google says thousands of its engineers<\/strong> already use EGM for production software, and while it hasn\u2019t published public benchmarks on speed, code quality, or bug rates, the design-first approach and context-blind reviews look like a sensible way to cut down on overconfident output, as long as you\u2019re still willing to challenge weak assumptions and make the final call.<\/p>\n\n
