Phantom Blade Zero is out now on PC and PS5, and the new action game from S-Game has landed to strong reviews. That gives the studio one of the best critical launches of 2026 so far. Right now, Phantom Blade Zero sits at an 88 on Metacritic for both platforms, while OpenCritic has it at a 91 Top Critic Average, with 100% of tracked critics recommending it. That’s the kind of start that puts a game in the awards conversation later this year.

Going by reviews from IGN, GameSpot, and VGC, players are getting fast, stylish combat that leans hard into aggressive offense. A lot of that seems to come from the Sha-Chi system, weapon switching, two main weapon loadouts, and Phantom Edges. Those outlets also say Phantom Blade Zero feels closer to Sekiro and Ninja Gaiden than to a more traditional Soulslike. The revenge story hasn’t gone over quite as well. Some critics call it safe, uneven, and a little hard to follow. Even so, the Kung-Fu Punk setting, polished animation, and strong Chinese cultural influence still give the game its own identity.

If you’re into action games, this seems like an easy one to recommend, especially with 500,000 Steam pre-orders, more than 2.5 million wishlists, and about $24 million in revenue before release. Phantom Blade Zero is available now on PC and PS5.
