More than 200,000 people have now signed the Change.org Save Mass Effect petition. The jump came after Electronic Arts decided on October 21, 2026 to shut down BioWare and cancel the next planned Mass Effect game, the one reports had been widely calling Mass Effect: Universe.

The petition organizers are asking Electronic Arts to do one of two things: put fresh internal resources behind Mass Effect, or license the IP to another studio. And the push hasn’t stayed on Change.org. It’s moved onto a Times Square billboard, into planned ads near Electronic Arts headquarters, and it has support from Mass Effect actors Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer.

All of that sits inside Electronic Arts’ broader restructuring. Reports said about 400 jobs were cut across the company, including roughly 50 at BioWare, as part of cost-cutting tied to a leveraged buyout and a stretch of weak recent results. With Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem still hanging over the franchise, selling another big-budget return was always going to be a harder argument.

Reports also said the canceled game was set 600 years after the original Mass Effect trilogy. It reportedly had a customizable N7 hero, more open-ended Hitman-style missions, and branching timelines shaped by earlier choices. That goes a long way toward explaining why fans are pushing this hard, even with Amazon Prime Video‘s Mass Effect adaptation still reportedly in development.

If you still want a new Mass Effect game, this campaign is an easy one to support, and you can add your name on Change.org.
