The studio is framing Blood and Ice as one of the biggest shifts in Dune: Awakening’s setting so far. It adds a new survival map in the icy north, along with fresh environmental hazards, resources, crafting options, loot, and its own self-contained story. So this isn’t just a cosmetic extra or a limited-time event dressed up as something bigger.

And no, Blood and Ice isn’t the title of the next Denis Villeneuve movie. That’s still Dune: Part Three, set for December 18, 2026, and most people expect it to adapt Dune Messiah. Production began in July 2025, and Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa are all returning. The broader franchise has plenty else going on too: Dune: Awakening launches on December 1, 2026, the first two films are getting IMAX re-releases, and a Dune Messiah graphic novel is scheduled for November 2026.

For anyone who plays Dune: Awakening regularly, this looks like an easy pickup. The frozen setting alone should show off a side of Arrakis we haven’t really had before, and it also brings new traversal options and a different kind of survival pressure.

If you already own Dune: Awakening, Blood and Ice will be included at no extra cost.
