Microsoft says Xbox<\/a> hit another slow quarter in fiscal Q1 2027. Gaming revenue was down 2%<\/strong> from a year earlier, and Xbox hardware revenue fell 14%.<\/p>\n

That makes five straight quarters of decline for the business. Xbox corporate vice president Asha Sharma pointed to hardware as the biggest weight on the results, arguing that console sales were limited more by supply than by demand because interest outpaced available stock. Even so, the 2% drop<\/strong> in gaming was still an improvement over the previous quarter, when gaming revenue fell 10%.<\/p>\n\n

Some analysts aren’t convinced by the supply argument. Circana analyst Mat Piscatella said the market data, especially in the US, doesn’t show widespread availability issues. His read is that demand may simply<\/a><\/strong> be softer, with Sony’s PlayStation<\/a> and Nintendo still in the mix and console prices staying high.<\/p>\n\n

There’s more in the report if you track Xbox closely. Content and services revenue slipped 2%<\/strong> as third-party content and Xbox Game Pass<\/a> both weakened, though first-party gains offset part of that decline. Microsoft is also reportedly looking at more tiered or a la carte versions of Xbox Game Pass as it keeps pushing Xbox beyond the console business and further into PC, cloud, and maybe handheld devices.<\/p>\n\n

The full earnings report is on Microsoft’s investor site. Microsoft posted $92.3 billion<\/strong> in revenue overall, up 19%, but Xbox still stands out as one of the softer parts of the company: console sales are dropping quickly, subscriptions aren’t the easy growth story they once were, and the business still seems to be feeling around for what comes next.<\/p>\n
