Reports are starting to line up around a GeForce RTX 5080<\/a> refresh, with a 24GB version possibly showing up in late 2026 or in Q1 2027, maybe even at CES 2027. NVIDIA hasn’t confirmed any of it.<\/p>\n

If the rumor holds, the main change is the memory<\/strong>. The GeForce RTX 5080 would go from 16GB of VRAM to 24GB, which is a 50% jump. For people running heavier workloads, or just trying to give themselves more breathing room for future games, that extra capacity could matter a lot.<\/p>\n\n

The rest is still murky. NVIDIA could phase out the 16GB card and replace it with this one, or keep both on sale at the same time. If the new model ends up being the rumored GeForce RTX 5080 SUPER, then the upgrade may not stop at VRAM. You could also see higher clock speeds, faster memory, more bandwidth, and a bump in power draw<\/strong>. If it’s only a memory increase, though, gaming gains might be pretty modest, while the asking price still climbs.<\/p>\n\n

Stock talk adds a little weight to the rumor. Reports say NVIDIA has about two months<\/strong> of GeForce RTX 5080 16GB inventory left, which would make a quick transition easier to picture. The pricing situation is already rough, though. The $999 GeForce RTX 5080 has reportedly gone past $2,000, the $1,999 GeForce RTX 5090 has pushed above $7,000, and average GPU prices are said to be up roughly 35%.<\/p>\n\n

So if what you really want is more VRAM, waiting for a GeForce RTX 5080 24GB might make sense. Still, GDDR7 and DRAM shortages<\/a>, data-center demand, and warnings from SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron could keep prices elevated well into 2027<\/strong>. In China, reports also claim the GeForce RTX 5090D V2 and GeForce RTX 5080 16GB may be dropped, which would leave the 24GB model as the flagship there.<\/p>\n\n

There’s nothing official to buy yet.<\/p>\n
