With the unveiling of the new touch-enabled MacBook Pro, the change goes far beyond the hardware. The PROLED XDR display lets us interact directly with our fingers, but it’s macOS’s responsibility to preserve the experience we’re already familiar with while adapting to that interaction. Apparently, that adaptation is only the beginning.<\/p>\n\n

macOS 27.2 is the first step toward a more touch-based experience<\/h2>\n\n

The new laptop will ship with macOS 27.2, a version that already includes several tweaks specifically for its display. We had already seen the first signs in the system betas, with gestures designed for Safari<\/a>, Photos<\/a>, and Notes. Now, Apple confirms that it will continue refining touchscreen interaction<\/strong>, as Chris Welch reports in Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn Apple employee who answered questions from the press during Wednesday’s event said that the company has only just begun to optimize macOS for touchscreens. I expect numerous improvements and tweaks to arrive next year alongside macOS 28, in the same way that the iPhone Duo user experience will inevitably evolve with iOS 28\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

As this is the first version of the operating system with support for touch interactions, it makes perfect sense for future versions of macOS to expand what’s possible. Apple will present macOS 28 in June next year, so that will be when we know more. While John Ternus wants to get every detail right of the design and the interfaces Apple’s goal is to add new ways to work while keeping the Mac simple<\/strong>.
