Meta says the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro are nearing the end of the line for new Horizon OS and feature updates. Horizon OS 2.13 is the last full OS release planned for both headsets, and Meta expects that rollout to be finished by March 2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After that, don’t count on new platform features or major upgrades. Meta says security patches<\/strong> and critical bug fixes will keep coming through the end of 2027, which puts Meta Quest 2 at a little over seven years of support from its 2020 launch, and Meta Quest Pro at just over five years from 2022.<\/p>\n\n

Both headsets should still handle the basics after March 2027. You’ll still be able to use supported games and apps, browse the store, re-download past purchases, play multiplayer with cross-play, and use Meta Quest Link for PC VR. The catch is that newer experiences may start to pass them by<\/strong> as developers focus on Quest 3, Quest 3S<\/a>, newer Horizon OS features, and faster hardware.<\/p>\n\n

Developers can still ship bug fixes, content updates, and continued support for existing titles. If support gets pulled in a way that removes access, Meta says developers have to give 180 days<\/strong> of notice. New app submissions for Quest 2 and Quest Pro, though, will only be accepted through December 2027.<\/p>\n\n

If you still use either headset all the time, this isn’t a reason to panic. It’s more a sign of where Meta is headed. Quest 2 has an installed base of more than 20 million<\/strong>, Quest Pro was discontinued by Meta in September 2024, and the company’s attention is plainly on newer Quest hardware. Even so, both headsets will still let you download apps and past purchases from the Meta Quest Store.<\/p>\n
