Now more information has emerged that shows the next version of Windows will simply be called Windows 8.1. The update for Windows RT will be called Windows RT 8.1. This makes sense as it follows the naming convention of <a title=\"windows phone\" href=\"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/b\/windows-phone\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Windows Phone<\/a>, which has seen versions 7, 7.5, 7.8, and 8.<\/p>\n<p>ZDNet&#8217;s Mary Jo Foley spoke with an anonymous Microsoft source that told her the official name will be Windows 8.1. This update will most likely be a very incremental update, improving <a title=\"windows blue touch features\" href=\"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/more-info-about-windows-blue-leaked-will-bring-touch-improvements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">touch features<\/a> and the interface. While minor updates, it shows that Microsoft is moving to a much quicker update cycle to bring improvements to its desktop\/tablet operating system.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p>Well maybe that&#8217;s not an April Fools&#8217; joke <a title=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/LI9QRKo.png\" href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/hiwt7yeJqm\">i.imgur.com\/LI9QRKo.png<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Roman L. (<a title=\"angelwzr\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AngelWZR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@AngelWZR<\/a>) tweeted out a screenshot of an experimental build of Windows Blue with &#8220;Windows 8.1 Pro&#8221; displayed prominently as the version number in the system info window.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-38512\" title=\"windows 8.1 blue\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/04\/windows-8.1-blue.png\" alt=\"windows 8.1 blue\" width=\"552\" height=\"505\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/04\/windows-8.1-blue.png 552w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/04\/windows-8.1-blue-300x274.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 552px) 100vw, 552px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Details are still sparse and Microsoft has not commented officially about the name for the next version of Windows.
