\"sherpa<\/a>There are plenty of third party Android voice assistants like Robin<\/a> and Dragon Mobile Assistant<\/a> but none of them really work as well as Google Now<\/a>. Sherpa hopes to change that. The app is already popular in Spain and Latin America and is making its US debut today. Like Google Now and Siri, Sherpa works with voice, but will also work with typed commands. The app will recognize natural language and integrates with other apps on your Android device.<\/p>\n

What makes Sherpa different and more useful than most third party voice assistants is speed and features. One unique feature Sherpa has is the ability to pay someone via PayPal with a simple voice command. Another cool thing Sherpa can do is give you contextual navigation instructions. If you tell Sherpa, “Take me to my next meeting,” it will automatically pull the address from your calendar and launch Google Navigation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One of the things that Sherpa does better than both Google Now and Siri is the ability to understand contextual clues in natural language. You can ask Sherpa to book a flight for you and your wife and it will understand the phrase, “my wife,” as meaning another person, and thus, will book two tickets. Sherpa also integrates with other apps on your phone and can send WhatsApp<\/a> messages for you. There’s also deep integration with social networks so search queries will provide results from social networks. Users will have to authenticate with these services in order to use them.<\/p>\n

Although Sherpa is impressive, it’s not perfect. Google Play reviewer, Phil Are Go<\/a>, complains that the commands, “Read Gizmodo” and “Show Gizmodo” only show up search results instead of understanding that he wants to visit a website.<\/p>\n
