On <a title=\"Skype pushes back Windows Live Messenger discontinuation, starts testing video voicemail\" href=\"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/skype-pushes-back-windows-live-messenger-discontinuation-starts-testing-video-voicemail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 8th<\/a>, all <a title=\"Windows Live Messenger\" href=\"http:\/\/windows-live-messenger-2012.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Messenger<\/a> users (except those in mainland China) were forced to migrate to <a title=\"Skype\" href=\"http:\/\/skype.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skype<\/a>. Thankfully there is a solution for those yearning to use Messenger again. <a title=\"Messenger Reviver 2\" href=\"http:\/\/messenger-reviver-2.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Messenger Reviver 2<\/a> allows you to patch or reinstall fully functional versions of Windows Live Messenger.<\/p>\n<p>Note that <strong>this is not a permanent solution<\/strong> as Microsoft still plans to fully discontinue Messenger and all of its services at a later date (estimated around March 2014). Messenger Reviver 2 is also an unofficial app, so it is possible that Microsoft will block this workaround in the future. If you already have an old version of Messenger installed you can <strong>\u201cPatch Messenger\u201d<\/strong> (or <strong>\u201cRevive\u201d<\/strong>) to make them fully functional. If no versions of Messenger are installed, you can <strong>\u201cDo a new Messenger install\u201d<\/strong> to install Messenger 2009 or Messenger 2012. If you\u2019ve already upgraded to Skype you may <strong>\u201cDo a repair Messenger install\u201d <\/strong>to Revive your disabled Messenger. Messenger Reviver 2 automatically detects which of these three installation types you\u2019ll need, but you can also select them manually by hitting the <strong>\u201cAdvanced\u201d<\/strong> button at the bottom.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff9900\">Patch Messenger<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-40271\" title=\"patch messenger\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/04\/patch-messenger.png\" alt=\"patch messenger\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/04\/patch-messenger.png 793w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/04\/patch-messenger-120x80.png 120w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2013\/04\/patch-messenger-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t upgraded to Skype and still have Messenger installed, you can patch it. Messenger Reviver 2 detects the 2009, 2011, and 2012 versions of Messenger and sorts them in a list. Select the version of Messenger you wish to convert and hit <strong>\u201cStart\u201d<\/strong>. You can also pick from 47 different languages. Wait for the process to complete and you\u2019ll be able to log into that version of Messenger. Click on which one you wish to install to start the process. Note that you can only add one of the two; if one is already installed, the other choice will not be selectable. Click on the prompt to Install <span style=\"color: #000000\"><a title=\"Windows Essentials 2012\" href=\"http:\/\/windows-essentials-2012.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Windows Essentials 2012<\/a><\/span>. Wait for the installation to complete and you\u2019ll receive a window displaying <strong>\u201cMicrosoft Services Agreement\u201d<\/strong>. This includes a large number of emoticons and Bing   integration (in the 2012 version). The question is, why cling on to a   doomed app? Yes, you might be used to Messenger but Microsoft has been   adamant about replacing Messenger with Skype. Even with Messenger Reviver 2, access   to Windows Live Messenger is projected to end by 2014, if not sooner.<\/p>\n<p>Messenger Reviver 2 is a temporary fix so you should get familiar with Skype or use another service like Facebook Messenger or Google Talk.  These chat apps have features comparable to Windows Live Messenger and   will offer support. Some of them connect to social networks and have mobile apps, making chatting even more  accessible. Eventually the amount of people on Windows Live Messenger will dwindle.
