Yahoo!<\/a> quietly announced over Twitter<\/a> that the company has acquired GhostBird Software, which will be used to improve Flickr<\/a>. GhostBird Software is known for their photography apps, KitCam and PhotoForge 2. PhotoForge allows users to shoot photos with different “lenses” and “films,” which is exactly what Hipstamatic<\/a> started and what Instagram<\/a> popularized. The app also let users adjust things like white balance, cropping, and image resizing.<\/p>\n

GhostBird Software announced on its site that development has stopped<\/a> and that they don’t intend to support any new versions of iOS. Current users can keep using the app but it can no longer be downloaded from the App Store if a user deletes it. Here’s what the company had to say:<\/p>\n

“If you already have the KitCam or PhotoForge2 apps on your devices, you will be able to continue to use them in their current versions. \u00a0However, we will not continue to update the apps as future versions of iOS are released. \u00a0Also, users who have previously purchased the app but don\u2019t have them on their devices today will not be able to re-download past purchases. \u00a0As of today, KitCam and PhotoForge2 are no longer available for download from the App Store.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yahoo! hasn’t announced how exactly GhostBird Software’s apps will be integrated with Flickr so we’ll have to wait and see.<\/p>\n
