{"id":45394,"date":"2013-07-16T23:38:14","date_gmt":"2013-07-16T21:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/?p=45394"},"modified":"2025-07-02T01:18:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T08:18:41","slug":"court-sides-with-yahoo-requires-us-government-to-declassify-yahoo-docs-on-fisa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/court-sides-with-yahoo-requires-us-government-to-declassify-yahoo-docs-on-fisa\/","title":{"rendered":"Court sides with Yahoo!, requires US government to declassify Yahoo! docs on FISA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yahoo! has won an important court battle today, which could help fix <a title=\"Yahoo! reveals FISA data request numbers to combat PRISM backlash\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/yahoo-reveals-fisa-data-request-numbers-to-combat-prism-backlash\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">public perception<\/a> of the company after it was marred by details of the NSA&#8217;s <a title=\"PRISM\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/b\/prism\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PRISM<\/a> spying program.<\/p>\n<p>The US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) has ruled that the details from Yahoo!&#8217;s 2008 case against joining the PRISM program must be made public. In a court order filed on June 14th, 2013, Yahoo! requested that the classified documents from the 2008 court battle be unsealed. Yahoo! hopes that these documents will show the company&#8217;s fierce objections to government demands for consumer data.<\/p>\n<p>The US government has until July 29th to provide a time frame for how long the declassification of Yahoo!&#8217;s court documents will take. During this time, the US government will have to redact any still-classified information.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the nine Silicon Valley tech companies listed as being part of the PRISM program are still struggling to regain consumer confidence. Facebook and <a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/google-fights-to-reveal-fisa-data-cites-1st-amendment\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a> have come out and said that their companies don&#8217;t give out information unless ordered to by the government.
