Tinder<\/a><\/strong>, the snap-judgement app for dating, has finally reached Android<\/a> after its huge success on the iOS<\/a> platform. The app, which uses the concept of swiping ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to show interest based solely on someone’s photo, exploded onto the scene last October and has shown little sign of slowing down since.<\/p>\n

Tinder’s simplicity seems to be the key to its success. Unlike other successful dating sites OKCupid or eHarmony, Tinder is exclusive to mobile devices<\/strong> and uses minimal information imported from your Facebook<\/a> account, along with your location, to create a profile.

\nViewing someone’s profile and seeing nothing more than a couple of photos<\/strong>, a few shared interests<\/strong> and mutual Facebook friends is enough to make a yay or nay decision. If both you and that person show mutual interest<\/strong>, you’ll be notified and can start a chat. It’s really that simple (and addictive).

\nUntil now, the market was restricted to iPhone users, undoubtedly limiting the already enormous number of potential matches created through the app. Tinder co-founder Sean Rad told TechCrunch<\/a> that the app has already made 100 million matches<\/strong>, and counting, at a rate of 1.5 million matches a day. With its addition to the Android platform, that number is sure to continue growing at a steady pace.<\/p>\n

Similar apps like Bang with Friends<\/a> for Android<\/a> and iPhone<\/a> also use your Facebook profile and the concept of ‘anonymity until mutual consent’ to create matches. Bang With Friends, however, is limited to your own Facebook friends and has proven much less popular with users, maybe in part due to its explicit and far too obvious name. Although it may not be the right place for serious dating, Tinder certainly appeals to time-sensitive millennials looking to meet someone quickly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
