{"id":46693,"date":"2013-08-05T10:56:15","date_gmt":"2013-08-05T08:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/?p=46693"},"modified":"2025-07-02T01:16:28","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T08:16:28","slug":"what-does-the-acquisition-of-rockmelt-mean-for-yahoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/what-does-the-acquisition-of-rockmelt-mean-for-yahoo\/","title":{"rendered":"What does the acquisition of Rockmelt mean for Yahoo!?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Yahoo!<\/strong> has announced its acquisition of <a href=\"http:\/\/rockmelt.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Rockmelt<\/strong><\/a>, the social browser which was launched in 2010. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/apply-for-a-rockmelt-beta-amazing-social-browser\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">At the time<\/a><\/strong>, Rockmelt, along with <a href=\"http:\/\/flock.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Flock<\/strong><\/a> seemed to be a new trend in browsers integrating social tools like <strong>Facebook<\/strong> to make sharing and discovering on the web easier.<\/p>\n<p>But the trend for Social Browsers never really took off, and by this year it was clear that Rockmelt wasn&#8217;t the future of browsing the web anymore. So why is Yahoo! interested in it?<\/p>\n<p>Yahoo! is unlikely to be releasing a browser, but the mobile, sharing and social technologies behind Rockmelt might help the Yahoo! homepage modernize. Better social integration and more personalization are a good fit for Yahoo! Its homepage is (maybe surprisingly) still very popular, ranked the fourth biggest site in the world, and unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/yahoo-mail.en.softonic.com\/download\">Yahoo! Mail<\/a> and search it is still growing. Making their strongest product even better sounds sensible.<\/p>\n<p>Do you use the Yahoo! homepage?
