Josh is 16, is about to go back to school and this year,\u00a0 he’ll go back armed with apps to make\u00a0studying<\/strong>, taking notes<\/strong>, and keeping up-to-date on his\u00a0grades, tests and absences<\/strong> even easier. Here are his must-haves!<\/p>\n

“Nobody needs a vacation as much as the person about to go back to school<\/strong>. Well, I guess that’s not exactly how the saying goes… but it pretty much sums it up, right?<\/p>\n

In the end, it\u2019s the same problem every year. It starts with math, <\/strong>pop quizzes<\/strong>, Spanish, trying to squeeze in a snack between classes and all sorts of other stuff… there’s no escape! And of course, I can forget about getting a car. ‘When you’re 18 you can have a car’, my parents say. So until then, I guess I’ll be picking Ashley up on my skateboard…<\/p>\n

Anyway, this time I’m going back to school prepared; I don’t want to risk failing another class. What apps can help me?”<\/p>\n

\"wordreference-com\"For starters, WordReference<\/a> (for iPhone)<\/strong> is perfect for my English<\/strong> homework, a dictionary that’s super useful.<\/p>\n

If I really want to get down to business in Spanish class, I can poke around Phrasebook<\/strong> (for\u00a0iPhone<\/strong> <\/a>and\u00a0Android<\/strong><\/a>), which is a million times better for managing languages than a book!<\/p>\n

If I don’t feel like spending time on it though, I’ll use an automatic translator.\u00a0 The best ones\u00a0\"google-translate\" are\u00a0Google\u00a0Translate<\/strong> (for\u00a0iPhone<\/strong> <\/strong><\/a>and\u00a0Android<\/strong><\/a>),iTranslate Voice for iOS<\/strong><\/a> and Trippo Mondo for Android<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Of course, I use\u00a0Evernote<\/strong> to take notes in class (for\u00a0iPhone <\/a><\/strong>and Android<\/strong><\/a>). I also found out that it has an\u00a0OCR<\/strong> function, meaning I can scan pages with my camera and convert it into text.\u00a0 I can even\u00a0record my classes<\/strong> (I guess that means I can pay a little less attention in class and a little more attention to Ashley).\u00a0 It’s awesome! Actually, what’s even cooler is that I can share my notes and videos with her!<\/p>\n

\"dropbox\"By putting my notes or video files<\/strong> in my public folder on\u00a0Dropbox<\/strong> <\/strong>(available on my iPhone<\/strong>, <\/strong><\/a> as well as her\u00a0Android<\/strong><\/a>), she can have a copy of my notes, or any other files I want to share with her, like pictures<\/strong> from my recent surfing trip to Costa Rica (she doesn’t have to know that the one picture of me actually surfing is the only time I managed to stay on my board the entire day).<\/p>\n

Last year, she gave me a math tip when she told me to try\u00a0iMatematica<\/strong>, which she uses on her Android<\/a>. I thought to myself, there’s no way that app exists for the iPhone.<\/a> Well, it turns out it does! Now <\/strong>I have every formula possible<\/strong> right in my pocket.<\/p>\n

When I’m a bit stressed, I can play a round of brain boosting games<\/strong> (trust me, they’re much more fun than they sound). \"WordOn\"This summer I discovered WordOn<\/strong> (for\u00a0iPhone <\/a> as well as for\u00a0Android<\/a>) and I played so much that I won 43 out of 51 rounds; I would have won all of them if it weren’t for “anna41445” who managed to beat me!<\/p>\n

\"Ruzzle\"My friend Mark challenged me in\u00a0Ruzzle<\/strong> <\/strong>(this one is for both the iPhone<\/strong> <\/strong><\/a>and Android<\/strong><\/a>), and we battle it out. He always finds a ton of short words; I usually fewer words, but I look for the long ones that are worth more points.<\/p>\n

Mark also likes those test things, so he’s always playing around on\u00a0Logical Test<\/strong> (which I think is just for\u00a0Android,<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>or I’d be playing it too). Basically it’s a bunch of puzzles, riddles and stuff like that, and some of them are actually really interesting!<\/p>\n

And they say smartphones make you dumb.<\/p>\n

If you’ve been out of school for a while then feel free to recommend a few\u00a0apps to go back to work prepared!<\/strong><\/p>\n
