It\u2019s an open-source Android variant, which adds features and options that can\u2019t usually be found in the ROM provided by the manufacturers. With CM, for example, you can manually increase CPU power or change the look completely. Phone performance tends to improve and in some cases, CyanogenMod is superior to the pre-installed one.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, CyanogenMod <strong>adds root to the phone <\/strong>&#8211; in other words, it allows you to be a superuser. As I said, there are many good reasons for rooting the phone: you can do things that are normally forbidden, such as complete backups, uninstalling operator applications, or recovering deleted videos and photos. The freedom that it gives you with your rooted\u00a0Android phone is immense.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What you need to use CyanogenMod Installer<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To use CyanogenMod Installer you must first install its two applications, one for the phone or tablet and the other for the computer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"CyanogenMod Installer for Android\" href=\"http:\/\/cyanogenmod-installer.en.softonic.com\/android\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CyanogenMod Installer for\u00a0Android<\/a> (2.3.3 or higher)<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"CyanogenMod Installer for Windows\" href=\"http:\/\/cyanogenmod-installer.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CyanogenMod Installer for\u00a0Windows<\/a> (Vista, 7, 8)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the same time, you must do the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure you have a good USB cable ready to connect the device to the PC<\/li>\n<li>Disable the antivirus so it doesn\u2019t interfere with the procedure<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your phone is fully charged<\/li>\n<li><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>: <a title=\"Back up your Android data using G Cloud\" href=\"http:\/\/features.en.softonic.com\/back-up-your-android-data-using-g-cloud\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">make a backup of your Android<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>:\u00a0temporarily <a title=\"Turn off 2-step verification\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/accounts\/answer\/1064203\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">disable<\/a> <a title=\"What is two-step verification?\" href=\"http:\/\/features.en.softonic.com\/what-is-two-step-verification\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two-step verification <\/a> or you\u2019ll run the risk of being locked out of your phone and your Google account (<a title=\"Turn off 2-step verification\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/accounts\/answer\/1064203\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">see here<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finally, you need to check if your mobile phone or tablet is compatible with CyanogenMod Installer. The <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.cyanogenmod.org\/w\/CyanogenMod_Installer#Supported_Devices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">list<\/a> is regularly updated on the official CyanogenMod website. Don\u2019t worry, your device doesn\u2019t need to be rooted.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Installing CyanogenMod Installer on your Android<\/h3>\n<p>The first thing you have to do is install <a title=\"CyanogenMod Installer for Android\" href=\"http:\/\/cyanogenmod-installer.en.softonic.com\/android\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CyanogenMod Installer on your phone or tablet<\/a>. Installing CyanogenMod Installer on Windows<\/h3>\n<p>Next install <a title=\"CyanogenMod Installer for Windows\" href=\"http:\/\/cyanogenmod-installer.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CyanogenMod Installer<\/a> on Windows Vista, 7, or 8 (the Mac version is coming soon). Temporarily disable your antivirus and use a good quality USB cable, making sure to only connect to built-in USB ports.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Connect the phone to the PC and follow the prompts in Windows<\/h3>\n<p>By connecting the phone (or tablet) to the PC via the USB cable, CyanogenMod Installer for Windows should be able to detect the model of the device. Confirm that you want to unlock the bootloader<\/h3>\n<p>You\u2019re now coming to perhaps the most complicated part of the process: unlocking the bootloader, in other words, the operating system manager of the phone or tablet you&#8217;re using (changing the OS of your phone is also known as &#8220;flashing&#8221;).
