With Windows XP<\/strong>, Windows Vista<\/strong> and Windows 7<\/strong>, it was very easy to customize your Windows logon and logoff sounds. Unfortunately, with Windows 8 and 8.1, it\u2019s not quite as easy and requires a hidden trick<\/strong>. Luckily, we’re here to show you what it is.<\/p>\n

In previous Windows versions, all you had to do to customize the logon and logoff sounds was open Control Panel<\/em> > Sounds and Audio Devices<\/em> > Change Sounds<\/em>. Once there, you could select the Windows Logon<\/em> (or Logoff<\/em>) sound and then simply chose the audio file (in .WAV format) that you wanted to hear when turning on the computer.<\/p>\n

\"Making<\/p>\n

With Windows 8<\/a>, it\u2019s not that easy. When you open Control Panel<\/em> > Sounds and Audio Devices <\/em>> Change Sounds, <\/em>the Windows Logon\/Logoff sounds doesn’t appear<\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

So, how do you change the logon\/logoff sounds?<\/strong> Follow the simple steps below<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Open the Windows Registry with Windows + R<\/strong>. In the new window, type regedit.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Find the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\AppEvents\\EventLabels<\/em> item. In the subfolders, click on Windows Logon<\/em> or Windows Logoff<\/em>.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Click on ExcludeFromCPL<\/em>, and in the popup window, change 1 to 0<\/strong> in the Value data<\/em> field.<\/p>\n

\"Make<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> As soon as this is done, go back to Control Panel<\/em> > Sounds and Audio Devices<\/em> > Change Sounds<\/em> and you\u2019ll see that\u00a0two new items have appeared<\/strong>: Windows Logon<\/em> and Logoff<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"Magic!\"<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> Ready. All you have to do now is customize the logon and logoff sound with the .WAV file of your choice.<\/p>\n
