{"id":66783,"date":"2014-05-17T19:11:12","date_gmt":"2014-05-17T17:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/?p=66783"},"modified":"2025-07-02T00:41:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T07:41:14","slug":"how-to-edit-a-video-with-gopro-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/how-to-edit-a-video-with-gopro-studio\/","title":{"rendered":"How to edit a video with GoPro Studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>GoPro<\/strong> videos are of\u00a0exceptional quality and, if they&#8217;re edited carefully, can become <strong>really awesome mini-movies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There are a ton of programs you can use to edit GoPro videos, from the simple Windows Movie Maker, to the most advanced Adobe Premiere and Final Cut.\u00a0There is one, however, that&#8217;s\u00a0created specifically for videos recorded with a GoPro, and it&#8217;s a perfect compromise between simplicity and quality. It&#8217;s called <strong>GoPro Studio.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this tutorial, I&#8217;ll show you how\u00a0<strong>to create a video recorded using a GoPro Hero<\/strong>, from the point of\u00a0importing, through to exporting, and everything in between.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Before you begin:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure you&#8217;ve downloaded and installed <a title=\"GoPro Studio for Windows\" href=\"http:\/\/gopro-studio.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GoPro Studio for Windows<\/a> or\u00a0GoPro Studio for Mac.<\/li>\n<li>Import videos from GoPro to your computer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>1. Import and convert files for the project<\/h3>\n<p>First, you have to import the video files you recorded.\u00a0To do this, open GoPro Studio and click on the blue <em>Import new files<\/em> button in the top left corner.\u00a0<strong>Choose the files you want to include<\/strong> and hit <em>Open<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Choose videos to include\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Import-files.jpg\" alt=\"Choose videos to include\" width=\"568\" height=\"341\" \/>Before you begin assembling the video, you can already start cutting any\u00a0<strong>unnecessary sections that you want to delete<\/strong>.\u00a0Click on one of the thumbnails in the left column and then on <em>Play,<\/em> in the bottom center, to start watching the clips.<\/p>\n<p>On the left you&#8217;ll see two <strong>play buttons<\/strong>: you can use these to select sections of the file that you want to keep. The one on the left will\u00a0determine the beginning of the clip, while the one on the right sets the end of the clip. You can choose several clips for one\u00a0single movie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Select segments\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Cut-video.jpg\" alt=\"Select segments\" width=\"568\" height=\"301\" \/>Use the <em>Advanced settings<\/em> button to change the video settings.\u00a0You can choose the video size and frames per second, increase the speed of the video, change the format, adjust the quality, or <strong>remove the &#8220;fish eye&#8221; effect <\/strong>typical of GoPro videos.\u00a0Select the last option, <em>Remember Settings<\/em>, to make sure that the program will remember the settings you&#8217;ve chosen for the next video you want to edit.\u00a0Press <em>OK<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Advanced settings\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Advanced-settings.jpg\" alt=\"Advanced settings\" width=\"568\" height=\"291\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To move the video to the conversion list, click <em>Add Clips to conversion list<\/em> (1)\u00a0in\u00a0the bottom right of the screen.\u00a0Repeat these steps for all the videos you&#8217;d like to add, although you can go back and <strong>add more videos<\/strong> during the editing phase by pressing on the <em>Import &amp; Convert<\/em> tab at the top.\u00a0When you&#8217;re done and your video files have been added to the right column, click on<em> Convert to<\/em> (2) below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Convert videos\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Convert-all.jpg\" alt=\"Convert videos\" width=\"568\" height=\"342\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the videos are ready to be converted, the <em>Proceed to step 2<\/em> option will appear at the bottom right of the screen. Click it to move on to the next step.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Add a title<\/h3>\n<p>On the next screen, GoPro Studio offers you 2 alternatives:\u00a0<strong>create a video from scratch<\/strong>, or use one of the templates in the software. If you choose the template option, all you have to do is replace the videos with your files. Below, I&#8217;ll show you\u00a0how to create one from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>Click\u00a0<em>Blank<\/em> on the left hand side, and then click\u00a0<em>Create<\/em> on the bottom right.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Create a video from scratch\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Edit-template.jpg\" alt=\"Create a video from scratch\" width=\"568\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To start, you can create\u00a0<strong>an opening title for your video<\/strong>.\u00a0To do this, click on\u00a0<em>Title<\/em> in the top left corner (1).\u00a0Then, type the text that you want to appear in the box in the top right corner, an option called\u00a0<em>Title properties<\/em> (2).\u00a0In the right column, you can change the text settings, including font,\u00a0color, length of the gradient (fade), or select one of the presets from the list below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Title your video\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Edit-title.jpg\" alt=\"Title your video\" width=\"568\" height=\"341\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then,\u00a0<strong>drag the title from the left column<\/strong> into the box in the bottom right hand corner, next to the video camera and the\u00a0 D<em>rag videos here<\/em> option, as shown in the image below.\u00a0If you want the text to appear superimposed on the video, drag it to the second line, where you see <em>Drag title here<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Drag video here\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Drag-and-drop-title.gif.gif\" alt=\"Drag video here\" width=\"567\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>3. Edit the\u00a0video<\/h3>\n<p>Next, add the video.\u00a0<strong>Select the video you want to import first,<\/strong> and again drag and drop it to the timeline next to the clip you added earlier.\u00a0In the right column, you can adjust various parameters such as the speed of the video, the duration of the fade, the audio levels, white balance settings, and the frame.\u00a0At the bottom, there are also presets to give it a vintage or night vision feel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Adjust settings\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Video-effects.jpg\" alt=\"Adjust settings\" width=\"568\" height=\"342\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Similar to the import stage, you can also change the duration of each\u00a0<em>clip<\/em> using the brackets at the bottom left of the preview screen, or by dragging the yellow lines in the video bar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Change length of each clip\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Select-video-duration.jpg\" alt=\"Change length of each clip\" width=\"568\" height=\"342\" \/>Use the button with the razor blade symbol to cut files into two clips (1) if you want to apply different effects to each one. By clicking on the &#8220;+&#8221; symbol\u00a0between the two clips, you can create a\u00a0<em>fade<\/em> (2) effect, which is haha okay. sorry toa gradient between clips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Create clips\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Timeline-editing.jpg\" alt=\"Create clips\" width=\"568\" height=\"327\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you&#8217;ve\u00a0finished adding each clip, you can\u00a0<strong>create a fade out effect<\/strong> to avoid the video being cut off abruptly.\u00a0To do this, click on the last clip in the timeline. In the right column, under the heading\u00a0<em>Video controls<\/em>, increase\u00a0the line to fade out.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Add Music<\/h3>\n<p>If you want to give a little rhythm to your video, you can\u00a0<strong>add audio tracks<\/strong>.\u00a0To do that, click <em>Media<\/em> in the top left and then select the music you want to import.\u00a0Then, drag the audio file into\u00a0the timeline,\u00a0where you see <em>Drag your title here<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Export video<\/h3>\n<p>When you&#8217;ve finished editing the video, all\u00a0<strong>you have to do is export it<\/strong> by clicking on the <em>Export<\/em> tab. Next, a window will open, where you can choose which video format you want to export it to.\u00a0There are lots of video types, each suitable for different needs and devices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Export video\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Export-file1.jpg\" alt=\"Export video\" width=\"568\" height=\"307\" \/>If, for example, you want to\u00a0<strong>upload it on to YouTube,<\/strong> you have to choose the first option. If you want to see it on your computer or project it onto your TV at home, you need to select\u00a0<em>1080p HD<\/em> .\u00a0Through the <em>Custom<\/em> option, you can set the parameters that you want.\u00a0Once you&#8217;ve decided on them, hit <em>Export<\/em> .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Export your video\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/Exporting-video-568x282.jpg\" alt=\"Export your video\" width=\"568\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Press play<\/h3>\n<p>And you&#8217;re done!
