Two long years later, I&#8217;ve completely <strong>changed my mind<\/strong>. Where the game once created surprise and expectation, it all seems to have blown away in the past few months.<\/p>\n<p>The gaming world has <a href=\"http:\/\/features.en.softonic.com\/the-most-eagerly-awaited-indie-games-of-2014\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">changed a lot<\/a> in two years, and the <strong>tricks<\/strong> of the new Ubi game no longer impress me. Why am I not particularly fond of Watch Dogs? Let me explain why I won&#8217;t be lining up on May 27th to buy the game.<\/p>\n<h3>A sedated Tom Cruise<\/h3>\n<p>The game&#8217;s creators have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=S5iu3MKlls4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said it themselves<\/a>: \u00a0it won\u2019t be easy to grow attached to Aiden Pearce, the Watch Dogs anti-hero. Personally, I feel no <strong>empathy<\/strong> for this sedated Tom Cruise clone. Taciturn, rough, and with an explosive temper, it almost makes me miss the deplorable Ezio from <a title=\"Download Assassin's Creed II\" href=\"http:\/\/assassins-creed-2.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Assassin&#8217;s Creed II<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Watch Dogs \" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2001\/05\/Vigilante_Take_Down_100107-568x295.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Dogs \" width=\"568\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>I feel no empathy for this Tom Cruise clone on Valium.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Do we know anything about his personality, his desires, or motivations? Apart from a vague story of <strong>revenge<\/strong>, we have nothing. At a time when video games give life to heroes as complex and intricate as those in <a href=\"http:\/\/papers-please.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Papers, Please<\/a>, The Last of Us or <a href=\"http:\/\/the-walking-dead.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Walking Dead<\/a>, the Watch Dogs hero seems like a relic of the past.<\/p>\n<h3><em>United Colors of Ubisoft\u2122<\/em><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">In addition to his unpleasant personality, our poor hero Aiden seems to be a victim of a typical pathology we find in games from the previous generation: he is the <strong>stereotype<\/strong> of your average white male hero in his thirties, a change for Ubisoft, who, in the past, wouldn\u2019t hesitate to include characters of a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prince_of_Persia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Persian<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Assassin%27s_creed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arab<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Assassin%27s_Creed_III\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American-Indian <\/a>or <a href=\"http:\/\/assassinscreed.wikia.com\/wiki\/Ad%C3%A9wal%C3%A9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caribbean<\/a> descent.<br \/>\n<em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Video Games Characters\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2001\/05\/182501_v1.jpg\" alt=\"Video Games Characters\" width=\"498\" height=\"401\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>The average hero with brown hair in his thirties, or, zero originality in gaming.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t even mention all the other stereotypical characters we find in the game, with the <a href=\"http:\/\/watchdogs.wikia.com\/wiki\/Jordi_Chin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Asian assassin<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/watchdogs.wikia.com\/wiki\/Anthony_%22Iraq%22_Wade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">African-American gang leader<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/watchdogs.wikia.com\/wiki\/Clara_Lille\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">punk hacker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>No imagination<\/h3>\n<p>Becoming a character who spends his days playing with a smartphone doesn\u2019t make me dream. That\u2019s what I do in reality all day. All things considered, Watch Dogs is more <strong>depressing<\/strong> than anything else.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Watch Dogs\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2001\/05\/Felony_Foot_100099-568x295.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Dogs\" width=\"568\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>I found an open wi-fi&#8230; Yippee!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The game takes place in a future that is so close to the present, that most of the <em>super powers<\/em> of our dear Aiden aren&#8217;t really that extraordinary. So, yes, while the game may be more realistic, I think I&#8217;d quickly <strong>get bored<\/strong> if my options are limited to disrupting traffic, creeping Facebook accounts that belong to people I don\u2019t know, or watching videos from surveillance cameras.<\/p>\n<h3>All quiet on the Western front\u2026<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"watch dogs mecha spider\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-images.sftcdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2001\/05\/watch-dogs-mecha-spider-568x316.jpg\" alt=\"watch dogs mecha spider\" width=\"568\" height=\"316\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Aiden Pearce\u2019s hallucinations remind me of Saints Row and GTA missions&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Although Ubisoft\u2019s game will launch\u00a0<strong>May 27th<\/strong>, you can experience some of its key mechanics playing other games that are already available. Inspiration? Emulation? Coincidence? Judge for yourselves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assassin&#8217;s Creed (doesn\u2019t matter which)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In each episode of this excellent saga, you become a vigilante on the margins of society throughout an adventure rooted in the <strong>real world<\/strong> that will lead to a more complicated plot. Sound familiar?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Assassin's Creed\" href=\"http:\/\/en.softonic.com\/s\/assassins-creed:multiplatform\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download Assassin&#8217;s Creed<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>GTA V<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If what you want is to roam freely through a city recreated to perfection, GTA V is the game for you. Even better, Rockstar\u2019s game includes missions under the effects of <a href=\"http:\/\/gta.wikia.com\/Grass_Roots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hallucinogenic substances<\/a> similar to the <em><strong>digital trips<\/strong><\/em> we can find in Watch Dogs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/features.en.softonic.com\/gta-v-what-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Find everything you need to know about GTA V<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Deus Ex: Human Revolution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With Deus Ex: Human Revolution, you\u2019ll be able to enjoy the <strong>cyberpunk<\/strong> atmosphere of Ubisoft\u2019s game. It&#8217;s the ideal way to become a hacker\u2019s apprentice and familiarize yourself with the societal issues addressed in Watch Dogs. Start with the original.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deus-ex-human-revolution.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download Deus Ex: Human Revolution<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Republique<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you dream about becoming a hacker, I recommend Republic, a game for iPad that combines hacking and <strong>infiltration stages<\/strong> perfectly, something we can also find on Watch Dogs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/republique\/id687888390?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download R\u00e9publique<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Need for Speed: Most Wanted<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do you want to drive the most <strong>amazing cars<\/strong> through the busy streets of a U.S. urban area and play hide and seek with the police? Try the excellent Need For Speed: Most Wanted.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/need-for-speed-most-wanted-demo.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download Need for Speed: Most Wanted<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Split\/Second<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Split\/Second gives the most aggressive drivers the chance to activate deadly traps at full speed. Let me know the day when Watch Dog&#8217;s Aiden Pearce is capable of bringing down planes or entire buildings onto those following him.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/split-second.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download Split\/Second<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>I hope I&#8217;m wrong<\/h3>\n<p>With only a week to go, I\u2019m not too impatient about the Watch Dogs launch. In the past, Ubisoft has given us much\u00a0<strong>more ambitious projects,<\/strong> and this new release doesn\u2019t thrill me as much.<\/p>\n<p>But, to be honest, I hope to be pleasantly surprised by Watch Dogs.
