To compete with\u00a0Google+ Hangouts<\/a> and other VOIP services, Skype has removed its Premium subscription model and now offers\u00a0group video calls for free<\/a>. Available for both\u00a0Windows<\/a> and\u00a0Mac<\/a>,\u00a0as well as\u00a0Xbox One, the\u00a0newly free feature <\/strong>lets\u00a0you include up to 10 people on a single call.<\/p>\n

Here, we’ll show you how to make a group video call, giving you all the\u00a0tips and tricks for taking\u00a0advantage of\u00a0VoIP<\/a> from the comfort of your\u00a0couch.<\/p>\n

Initiate a group video call on Skype<\/h3>\n

To set up a call and (virtually) meet your friends, go to the Discussions<\/em> tab, then drag contacts to the top right of the window.\u00a0You can add up to 9 participants<\/strong> (it’s 10 including you).\u00a0\"AddOnce you’ve grouped together the people you want to call, simply click the Video Call<\/em> button\u00a0to start a video conference, or choose the Call the group<\/em> option to open a chat without activating your webcam.\u00a0\"SkypeNote that it’s possible to\u00a0save a group in your Contacts<\/strong> .\u00a0You can rename the group using the pen icon at the top left, as seen below. Enter the name of the group and click OK to save it. This option can be especially useful if you regularly video conference\u00a0with the same people.\"Skype\"Skype<\/p>\n

Add a participant during an ongoing conversation<\/h3>\n

Did you forget to add a friend to the group conversation?\u00a0Don’t\u00a0worry\u2013 there’s\u00a0a way to add another person to a\u00a0video call that’s already in progress, although only the person who initiated the call<\/strong> can do this.\u00a0This person will have to click the +<\/em> button, then choose Add people to the call<\/em>.\u00a0\"SkypeSelect the contacts you want, then click OK.\u00a0\"SkypeOnce the added person has accepted, you can continue with your free video call.<\/p>\n

Sending files, much like\u00a0screen sharing, is now an\u00a0integrated function for any self-respecting chat system.\u00a0Skype is no exception to\u00a0the rule and provides the following possibilities: screen grab<\/strong>, sending files<\/strong> and contacts<\/strong>, and screen sharing<\/strong>.\u00a0\"SkypeBelow is a short video<\/strong> published by Microsoft to help you better understand all the features of group video calls.<\/p>\n

With this Skype feature available for both\u00a0PC<\/a> and\u00a0Mac<\/a>,\u00a0Microsoft is taking on Google Hangouts, ooVoo, and other similar services, head-on.\u00a0It’s certainly taken a while, but Skype can always count on its existent (and\u00a0substantial) user\u00a0base to be happy about this change.<\/p>\n
