{"id":67609,"date":"2014-06-02T19:54:52","date_gmt":"2014-06-02T17:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/?p=67609"},"modified":"2025-07-02T00:39:43","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T07:39:43","slug":"apple-skewers-android-for-fragmentation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/apple-skewers-android-for-fragmentation\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple skewers Android for fragmentation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple CEO Tim Cook skewered Android for its operating system <a title=\"Over half of Android devices have Jelly Bean\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/over-half-of-android-devices-have-jelly-bean\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fragmentation<\/a> at Apple&#8217;s WWDC developer conference in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>Cook showed how <strong>iOS 7 has an 87% adoption rate<\/strong>, while Android <a title=\"Android 4.4 KitKat review\" href=\"http:\/\/features.en.softonic.com\/android-4-4-kitkat-review\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KitKat<\/a>, the latest version of Android, only has 9% adoption.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Running an older version of the operating system means customers don&#8217;t get the latest features.&#8221; says Cook. &#8220;It also means users aren&#8217;t getting the latest security updates to keep them safe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Google is tackling its fragmentation problem by updating its own apps using an app that runs in the background called <a title=\"What is Google Play Services?\" href=\"http:\/\/features.en.softonic.com\/what-is-google-play-services\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google Play Services<\/a>.
