There are tons of new features and updates to existing apps. Typing search terms in Spotlight will automatically pull information from the web.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if you&#8217;re looking up something like &#8220;Golden Gate Bridge,&#8221; Spotlight will pull up information from Wikipedia. The information is displayed at the top of the search results. You can now <strong>reply to messages within Notification Center<\/strong> without opening the app or unlocking your iPhone.<\/p>\n<p>Quick actions also extend to the multitasking menu, which now shows your favorite contacts. The messaging app now supports <a title=\"Messages for iOS 8 supports voice and video\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/messages-for-ios-8-supports-voice-and-video\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">voice and video<\/a> messaging to compete with the likes of <a title=\"Snapchat for iOS\" href=\"http:\/\/snapchat.en.softonic.com\/iphone\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Snapchat<\/a> and <a title=\"Facebook Messenger\" href=\"http:\/\/facebook-messenger.en.softonic.com\/iphone\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook Messenger<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those of you who hate getting group messages will be happy to know you can now <strong>mute individuals within a group<\/strong>. You will also be able to remove people from a chat and name a conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Apple also copies Snapchat&#8217;s <strong>self-destructing messaging feature<\/strong> too. You can now set messages to automatically disappear after a certain time.<\/p>\n<p>Since iMessage isn&#8217;t available on non-iOS devices, I can&#8217;t see it being more successful than Snapchat. Still, it&#8217;s a nice set of features for users who live in Apple&#8217;s world.<\/p>\n<h3>Mail<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-67652\" title=\"iOS 8 Mail\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.53.02-568x426.png\" alt=\"iOS 8 Mail\" width=\"568\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.53.02-568x426.png 568w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.53.02-256x192.png 256w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.53.02.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mail for iOS 8 gains <strong>gestures<\/strong> we&#8217;ve seen in <a title=\"Mailbox\" href=\"http:\/\/mailbox.en.softonic.com\/iphone\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mailbox<\/a>, which was bought by <a title=\"Dropbox releases Mailbox app for Android, adds &quot;Auto-Swipe&quot; feature\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/dropbox-releases-mailbox-for-android\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dropbox<\/a>. You can swipe left to remove a flag or reply to a message. Swipe left even further and you can delete the message entirely.<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t anything new if you&#8217;re already using Mailbox.<\/p>\n<h3>Safari<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-67653\" title=\"iOS 8 Safari tab view\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.52.30-568x426.png\" alt=\"iOS 8 Safari tab view\" width=\"568\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.52.30-568x426.png 568w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.52.30-256x192.png 256w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.52.30.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Safari for iOS 8 remains pretty much the same except for the <strong>new tab view<\/strong>, which is also available on OS X Yosemite.<\/p>\n<h3>QuickType keyboard<\/h3>\n<p>Apple&#8217;s iOS keyboard has stayed relatively the same since its introduction. With iOS 8, Apple has added <strong>predictive typing suggestions<\/strong> at the top.<\/p>\n<p>The keyboard learns how you type and will adopt your language. The feature is apparently so advanced it knows to <strong>suggest formal language<\/strong> when chatting with your boss.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve seen predictive typing in many third-party keyboards for Android, but never this advanced.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of other keyboards, Apple will finally allow you to use a third-party keyboard by default. Swipe left to right to modify your image before it syncs across all your devices using iCloud.<\/p>\n<p>Apple finally lets you sync all of your photos <a title=\"Apple working on Photos app for Mac\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/apple-working-on-photos-app-for-mac\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">across your devices<\/a>. Photos are synced with their <strong>original file type and in full resolution<\/strong>. This means you&#8217;ll be eating through your free 5GB of storage very quickly. Apple offers yearly subscriptions for more storage: 10GB for $20, 20GB for $40, and 50GB for $100.<\/p>\n<h3>Continuity<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-67655\" title=\"iOS OS X Continuity\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.37.07-568x426.png\" alt=\"iOS OS X Continuity\" width=\"568\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.37.07-568x426.png 568w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.37.07-256x192.png 256w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/2014-06-02-10.37.07.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the slickest features of iOS 8 and <a title=\"OS X Yosemite\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/os-x-yosemite-announced-coming-fall-2014\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OS X Yosemite<\/a> is Continuity. The feature allows you to <strong>continue working on any Apple device<\/strong> if they&#8217;re on the same network.<\/p>\n<p>A small icon will show up on the lock screen or in the dock of your Mac, letting you know you can pick up editing a  photo or finishing an email on that device. Extensions allow app developers to integrate <strong>provide features and services to other apps<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you can use <a title=\"VSCO Cam for iOS\" href=\"http:\/\/vsco-cam.en.softonic.com\/iphone\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VSCO Cam<\/a>&#8216;s excellent filters within Photos instead of using the built-in editing tools. The new feature syncs all of your documents across iOS, OS X, and even Windows.<\/p>\n<h3>Health<\/h3>\n<p>We heard many <a title=\"Leaked iOS 8 screenshots show new Healthbook app\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/leaked-ios-8-healthbook\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rumors<\/a> of Apple&#8217;s Healthbook app but we didn&#8217;t get that today. Instead, we got <strong>Health<\/strong>, an app that will be a centralized hub for all your health apps.<\/p>\n<p>Developers can tap into this database of health information for their apps. Calendars, reminders, and device locations can also be shared between family members.<\/p>\n<p>Most importantly, <a title=\"Family Sharing in iOS lets you share movies, music and apps\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/family-sharing-in-ios-lets-you-share-movies-music-and-apps\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Family Sharing<\/a> prevents kids from racking up huge bills from in-app purchases. iOS 8 <strong>sends a request<\/strong> to a parent every time an in-app purchase is attempted.<\/p>\n<h3>Siri<\/h3>\n<p>Updates to Siri are pretty minor in iOS 8. You can now activate Siri <strong>without touching your phone<\/strong> by saying &#8220;Hey, Siri.&#8221; This is exactly how <a title=\"Google Voice Search\" href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/google-voice-search-for-chrome\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google Now<\/a> works on Android.<\/p>\n<p>Siri also gets <a title=\"Shazam for iOS\" href=\"http:\/\/shazam.en.softonic.com\/iphone\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shazam<\/a> integration to help you identify songs, TV, and movies.<\/p>\n<h3>When will iOS 8 be available?<\/h3>\n<p>iOS will be available to everyone <strong>sometime this fall<\/strong>.
