Even though Android TV<\/a> was just announced, Google is still giving its Chromecast media streaming stick<\/strong> some love. There aren’t many major changes, but the few they announced make for a more polished experience.<\/p>\n

You can now cast media to a Chromecast without using Wi-Fi<\/strong>. This is useful if you don’t want to give your friends your Wi-Fi password, or if you just want to share a video as quickly as possible. Google’s using technology that detects phones that are in the same room<\/strong> as a Chromecast to prevent strangers from accessing your device.<\/p>\n

Also new to Chromecast is the ability to change the wallpaper<\/strong>, called “Backdrops”. You can use your own photos, as well as choose the types of photos you want to show up on your Chromecast when it’s not in use. The feature will be coming later this summer.<\/p>\n

Lastly, Chromecast finally support Android mirroring<\/strong>, allowing you to show off what you’re doing on your phone on your TV. No cables or complicated set up needed. This is great for giving demonstrations on your Android phone or tablet.<\/p>\n

The Chromecast update will roll out automatically using Google Play Services sometime this year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
