Many wondered what would happen to iPhoto<\/a> after Apple announced its new Photos app<\/strong> for OS X Yosemite<\/a>. Today, TechCrunch<\/em> reports Apple is planning on killing iPhoto and Aperture<\/a> in favor Photos.<\/p>\n

“With the introduction of the new Photos app and iCloud Photo Library, enabling you to safely store all of your photos in iCloud and access them from anywhere, there will be no new development of Aperture…When Photos for OS X ships next year, users will be able to migrate their existing Aperture libraries to Photos for OS X,” said an Apple spokesperson.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It makes sense for Apple to replace iPhoto with Photos but killing off Aperture will surely upset professional photographers. From the brief preview of Photos during Apple’s WWDC event, it appears Photos bridges the gap between casual and pro-level editing features<\/strong>. The switch will undoubtedly upset photographers who have invested their time and money into Aperture.<\/p>\n

Aperture will be updated to work in OS X Yosemite<\/strong> but development will stop. Apple is even working with Adobe<\/strong> to help Aperture users migrate to Lightroom<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Even though Aperture is dead, Apple wants to reassure pro users that Logic Pro<\/a> and Final Cut Pro<\/a> are sticking around.<\/p>\n
