{"id":70386,"date":"2014-08-05T16:40:02","date_gmt":"2014-08-05T14:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/?p=70386"},"modified":"2025-07-02T00:33:44","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T07:33:44","slug":"twitter-tries-showing-you-tweets-from-people-your-friends-follow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/twitter-tries-showing-you-tweets-from-people-your-friends-follow\/","title":{"rendered":"Twitter tries showing you tweets from people your friends follow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/b\/twitter\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> is constantly testing new features, like last year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/is-twitter-experimenting-with-personalized-news-stories\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Event Parrot<\/a>, and now, it appears that it&#8217;s testing putting tweets from users your friends follow into your feeds.<\/p>\n<p>User <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/aleefbaypay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@aleefbaypay<\/a> complained on Twitter that he was seeing tweets from some accounts that he didn&#8217;t follow, but that people he follows follow:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-70387\" title=\"Twitter test\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/08\/twitter-test.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/08\/twitter-test.jpg 576w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/08\/twitter-test-144x256.jpg 144w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2014\/08\/twitter-test-319x568.jpg 319w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Currently, everyone can see <strong>promoted tweets<\/strong>, and sometimes they are from accounts followed by accounts you follow. These are always marked as &#8216;promoted&#8217;, where as this new test is not. As The Next Web points out, we&#8217;re used to ads popping into Twitter feeds now, but this is different. It may appear to be an endorsement from  the account you follow when in reality, its not.
