Like any Minecraft<\/a> junkie knows, mods <\/strong>are accessories that change several aspects of\u00a0the adventure and building game. Some mods add new blocks, while others modify the laws of the game or improve the graphics, and\u00a0installing them<\/a> is easy if you use tools like\u00a0Minecraft Forge<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The mod universe is fascinating, but it’s easy to get lost or go wrong. To help you get started, I’ve compiled a list of what I consider the best mods for Minecraft<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Minecraft Forge,\u00a0the mod forge<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A typical problem is that some mods are incompatible, making it impossible to install <\/strong>them under a single profile. This issue can be resolved with\u00a0Forge<\/a>, which lets you install many of the best mods.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

After installing Forge, open Minecraft, select the Forge profile,<\/strong> and run the game once. You can read more about Forge and how to install mods\u00a0in this tutorial<\/a>. Currently, there’s no other system as simple as this one.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Chroma Hills,\u00a0Zelda-style graphics in Minecraft<\/h3>\n

Chroma Hills<\/a> is a resource pack that modifies Minecraft’s graphics <\/strong>to have a more refined appearance, similar to many fantasy games. There are more packages, but this one is my favorite.<\/p>\n

To install Chroma Hills, copy the zip file<\/strong> to Minecraft’s folder \/assets<\/em>. You can open it quickly with Windows + R, then write % AppData%<\/em> and press Enter: \/assets<\/em> is one of the subfolders in \/minecraft<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This is the fastest way to get to the AppData folder, which contains Minecraft data.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n

After copying the zip file, run Minecraft, go to the Options <\/em>menu, and in Resource packs,<\/em> select Chroma Hills with a double-click. Confirm, and Minecraft will change as if by magic.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Shaders Mod,\u00a0the doorway to better graphics<\/strong><\/h3>\n

ShadersMod<\/a> is another mod that, like Forge, doesn’t add anything in itself, but allows you to use other mods. Download the Forge file for your version of Minecraft and copy the .jar file in the \/mods<\/em> folder.<\/p>\n

\"\"It’s very important that you download the version for Forge <\/strong>and not the installer. The installer creates a different Minecraft profile that lacks Forge and as a result, other mods. Check before you download.<\/p>\n

SEUS (Sonic Ether\u2019s Unbelievable Shaders)<\/h3>\n

Since ShadersMod is useless without a shader, try downloading\u00a0SEUS<\/a>,\u00a0my favorite shader. The effect on Minecraft’s graphics is spectacular. Look at the picture below to see the differences.<\/p>\n

To install SEUS, you can download one of the versions (Standard, Ultra, etc.)\u00a0here<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0and copy the zip file to the folder \/shaderspack<\/em> (create it if it doesn’t exist). Then, from the game, go to Shaders <\/em>and select SEUS in Options <\/em>> Shaders<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Millenaire,\u00a0a bit of culture is always welcome<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The emptiness <\/strong>of Minecraft is one of my least favorite things about the game. The villages, which were introduced a few versions ago, have mitigated the problem of loneliness, but not completely. That’s why I ended up installing\u00a0Millenaire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Millenaire adds villages from different cultures<\/strong> to the game, with characters talking and trading, and settlements of different styles. It has its own installer, but the quickest way is to download the ZIP and unzip it into \/mods<\/em>.<\/p>\n

BuildCraft,\u00a0for those who take building seriously<\/strong><\/h3>\n

With\u00a0BuildCraft<\/a>, you can build <\/strong>literally anything. The mod adds a mechanisms and resources to Minecraft\u2013 including fuel oil\u2013 so that you can assemble all kinds of machines and buildings from the game’s standard blocks.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The user SpaceToad is building a<\/em> robot<\/a> <\/em>in Minecraft thanks to BuildCraft.<\/em><\/p>\n

Thanks to Forge, it’s very easy to install: download the file and copy it into the \/mods folder. A suggestion:\u00a0 read the\u00a0wiki<\/a> to learn new formulas for BuildCraft.<\/p>\n

Biomes O\u2019 Plenty,\u00a0rich and diverse landscapes<\/h3>\n

If you get tired of the eternal snowy landscapes, install\u00a0Biomes O\u2019 Plenty<\/a>, a mod that’s compatible with Forge and supports no less than 75 new landscapes for Minecraft. My favorites are the volcano and the meadow (ideal for horses).<\/p>\n

Similar to other mods, to install Biomes O ‘Plenty, all you have to do is download the relevant\u00a0Universal<\/a> file for your version of Minecraft and copy it into the Mods folder.<\/p>\n

DecoCraft,\u00a0lots of new decorative items<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I’ve built and decorated many houses with\u00a0DecoCraft<\/a>, a\u00a0mod which adds many decorative objects to Minecraft. With DecoCraft, for example, you can add cutlery, bedding and even tombstones.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Recreating a wine cellar with barrels and jars is very easy if you use<\/em> Decocraft (source<\/a>).<\/em><\/p>\n

You can install it by adding the file for your version of Minecraft into the mods folder. Once in the game, you can create objects following the recipes you’ll find in this\u00a0wiki<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mo\u2019Creatures,\u00a0a zoo in Minecraft<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cows and chickens are fine, but the world of Minecraft deserves to be a little bit livelier. I recommend trying\u00a0Mo\u2019Creatures<\/a>,\u00a0a mod that adds 40 new creatures to Minecraft including elephants and walking trees.<\/p>\n

Ents are one of the 40 species added by<\/em> <\/em>Mo’Creatures <\/em>(source<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n

You need\u00a0CustomMobSpawner<\/a> to run Mo’Creatures.\u00a0Copy both files into the Mods folder and you’ll see the creatures appear randomly in the game. For more information, see the original\u00a0forum post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What if Minecraft crashes due to errors?<\/h3>\n

I’ve tried this combination of mods personally, and I haven’t had any problems with Minecraft 1.7.10, but future updates could change things. I suggest adding mods one by one,<\/strong> and then trying the game to make sure everything works okay.<\/p>\n
