{"id":71668,"date":"2014-08-26T16:44:41","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T14:44:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/?p=71668"},"modified":"2025-07-02T00:31:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T07:31:17","slug":"rumor-modern-ui-disabled-by-default-on-windows-9-enterprise-and-server-editions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/rumor-modern-ui-disabled-by-default-on-windows-9-enterprise-and-server-editions\/","title":{"rendered":"Rumor: &#8216;Modern UI&#8217; disabled by default on Windows 9 Enterprise and Server editions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reliable Windows leak source <a href=\"http:\/\/news.en.softonic.com\/b\/wzor\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wzor<\/a> has been at it again, apparently spilling details of Microsoft&#8217;s upcoming <strong>Windows 9<\/strong> (Threshold) operating system.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Twitter<\/strong>, the (presumably) Russian Wzor made a number of statements about Windows 9:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The Metro (Modern) UI won&#8217;t be enabled by default on Enterprise and Server versions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A special build of on <strong>Windows 9 Enterprise Technical Preview<\/strong> is already ready, but consumer test builds of Windows 9 pro will not be available to the public.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; There is a test build of Windows 9 RT, that is only compatible with the &#8216;<strong>Surface 3<\/strong>&#8216; device.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Microsoft doesn&#8217;t know how to get <strong>XP users to upgrade<\/strong>, but Windows 7 users will get an &#8216;awesome offer&#8217; to encourage them to upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Anyone who bought a Windows 8 retail version or PC with it installed will get a <strong>special offer to upgrade<\/strong> (maybe $20).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Windows 9 will <strong>support 3D<\/strong> for &#8216;ultra&#8217; high definition TVs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Windows 9 will feature <strong>backup and system restore<\/strong> from the cloud, and it is developing systems to &#8216;virtualize&#8217; backups of physical systems in the cloud.<\/p>\n<p>One of the surprises in Wzor&#8217;s statements is the existence of Windows 9 RT. Windows 8 RT was heavily criticized for being a hobbled version of the OS, and it seemed probable that Microsoft would not repeat the mistake again. The most interesting rumors are about the &#8216;cloud&#8217;. Offering system backups from the cloud, if the pricing and security is right, could be great for Windows users.
