Google\u2019s Amazon Video competitor now lets you download your purchased movies and TV shows to watch offline<\/strong>. While Android users<\/a> have had offline access since the beginning, iOS are now finally joining them nine months later<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the ability to download and watch videos offline is a welcomed feature, Google Play Movies and TV for iOS is still missing a critical feature: the ability to purchase video in the app. Since Google doesn\u2019t want to give Apple a 30% cut<\/strong> of its profits, the company is leaving out the ability to buy or rent video. Instead, iOS users can go to the Google Play site<\/a> to buy content.<\/p>\n

Google isn\u2019t the only company to do this; both Amazon and ComiXology disabled purchasing content inside their iOS apps to avoid giving Apple part of their profits. This fight creates an inelegant experience and annoyance for users but it\u2019s the cost of providing software on a competitor\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n
