BitTorrent wants you to control your own information and has released an untraceable chat app called Bleep.

The app is unique in that it establishes a direct connection between users instead of relying on a server as a middleman. For example, if you send a message to someone using Facebook Messenger (Android | iOS) or Google Hangouts (Android | iOS), your message is first sent to the company’s server and then delivered to the recipient.

Bleep, on the other hand, establishes a direct connection so there’s nothing stored in the cloud on a server. Messages are stored on your phone but remain encrypted (you can delete your message history at any time). All communications are encrypted, making it extremely difficult to snoop on.

To start chatting with someone using Bleep, you can sign up for an account using your phone number or email. Or if you want to go completely incognito, you can just start using the app. You can import your contacts if you want or you can invite friends to chat via email, text, QR code or using a public key (a series of random numbers and letters).

BitTorrent Bleep is currently in public alpha, which means the app is still experimental and not ready for most consumers. There are lots of bugs to be fixed before a final version will be available.

If you want to test out Bleep and help BitTorrent make it better, check out the source link below. The app is available for Windows, Mac and Android.

Source: BitTorrent

Related Stories

How to protect private pictures on your phone

Facebook for iOS 8 offers more location sharing options

iCloud increases security with two-factor authentication

Mailpile, the security focussed email client enters public beta

Follow me on Twitter: @lewisleong

Security is a hot topic nowadays with the NSA snooping on innocent civilians and companies are getting hacked all the time.
