On feature we expected to see in the Windows 10 Technical Preview<\/a> wasn’t mentioned by Microsoft at its launch event. We saw a Notification Center <\/strong>in leaks<\/a>, but it disappeared in the final release. However, the feature is actually still there. It’s deactivated in the preview but can be switched on with a hack.<\/p>\n

We saw the notification center in a leaked video of the preview in September. A Twitter user, @adeyblue<\/a>, has created an unofficial patch that you can apply to the Windows 10 Technical Preview to activate the feature. Download and open the Zip file, then double click the .exe to activate. You can see the feature in the screenshot below.<\/p>\n

It’s likely that the Notification Center is deactivated due to being to early in its development cycle. It’s similar to what we know from Windows Phone 8.1<\/a>, but its functions are very limited. In older versions of Windows, notifications appeared as pop-ups that then disappeared. This new notification center serves as a hub for all your recent and relevant messages, like you have in iOS, OS X and Android. However, these notifications don’t currently do anything – you can’t click them to perform any actions like answering a Skype<\/a> call.<\/p>\n
