Skype<\/a> has launched a preview of its real time speech translation<\/strong> feature, and you can sign up to start testing it, although there are limited places available and you have to be using Windows 8.1.<\/p>\n

Skype Translator <\/strong>allows you to talk and listen as usual, and speech is translated live, with voice and subtitles. It works in the following languages for voice translation: English, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Chinese, Portuguese and Arabic. Chat can be translated in 45 different languages.<\/p>\n

Taking part in the Translator Preview is free, but as we said above, there are limited places available. Register here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Microsoft has not announced a launch date for Skype Translator, and worse still for users, back in May, CEO Satya Nadella suggested the service would not be free. We might not see a release of the final product for another two years.<\/p>\n
