If have either of these, then just clicking on the &#8220;Get Windows 10&#8221; icon on your taskbar will see it downloaded and installed.<\/p>\n<p>Fine, in theory, but for many users it seems that<strong> this icon is missing<\/strong>. Your PC is <strong>not updated to the latest version<\/strong>: SP1 for Windows 7 or the latest update for Windows 8.1.<br \/>\n2. <strong>Windows Update is disabled<\/strong> or is not configured to receive automatic updates.<br \/>\n3. You<strong> blocked or uninstalled the necessary Windows Update <\/strong>function.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-82501\" title=\"Update\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/updates-568x275-568x275.jpg\" alt=\"Update\" width=\"568\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/updates-568x275.jpg 568w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/updates-568x275-256x123.jpg 256w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/>If the reason you are not seeing the button is one of these three reasons, the solution is simple:<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>Windows 7 users<\/strong>, go to Control Panel&gt; System and Security&gt; Windows Update&gt; Check for Updates (Windows 7).<br \/>\nAnd for <strong>Windows 8 users<\/strong>, go to Control Panel&gt; Windows Update&gt; Search Updates (Windows 8).<\/p>\n<p>In this menu you&#8217;ll find the latest version of whatever version of Windows you are running. Then all you have to do is<strong> follow the prompts to install the update <\/strong>and the \u201cGet Windows 10\u201d button should magically appear.<\/p>\n<h3>Is the icon still missing?<\/h3>\n<p>It is possible that even after updating your version of Windows the icon still won\u2019t show up. <a name=\"eligibility\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1. Your <strong>copy of Windows is not genuine<\/strong>.<br \/>\n2. Your PC is running <strong>Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8 \/ 8.1 Enterprise or Windows RT \/ RT 8.1<\/strong>, which are excluded from this offer.<br \/>\n3. The <strong>PC is part of a shared network <\/strong>(school or company).<br \/>\n4. In case 3 this update will be decided by your organization, check with your IT department. In case 4, you don\u2019t have to do anything.<\/p>\n<h3>None of the above applies to you but the icon is still missing<\/h3>\n<p>It is possible that your PC is eligible for the upgrade but icon remains missing from the taskbar. In that case there is another possibility. This method is a little more advanced however, so here is a <strong>step-by-step walk-through<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Open Notepad<\/strong><br \/>\n2. <strong>Copy and paste<\/strong> in the following &#8211; not in any way fun to read &#8211; text:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888\"> REG QUERY &#8220;HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\AppCompatFlags\\UpgradeExperienceIndicators&#8221; \/v UpgEx | findstr UpgEx<br \/>\nif &#8220;%errorlevel%&#8221; == &#8220;0&#8221; GOTO RunGWX<br \/>\nreg add &#8220;HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\AppCompatFlags\\Appraiser&#8221; \/v UtcOnetimeSend \/t REG_DWORD \/d 1 \/f<br \/>\nschtasks \/run \/TN &#8220;\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Application Experience\\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser&#8221;<br \/>\n:CompatCheckRunning<br \/>\nschtasks \/query \/TN &#8220;\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Application Experience\\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser&#8221;<br \/>\nschtasks \/query \/TN &#8220;\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Application Experience\\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser&#8221; | findstr Ready<br \/>\nif NOT &#8220;%errorlevel%&#8221; == &#8220;0&#8221; ping localhost &gt;nul &amp;goto :CompatCheckRunning<br \/>\n:RunGWX<br \/>\nschtasks \/run \/TN &#8220;\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Setup\\gwx\\refreshgwxconfig&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Click File<\/strong>, then <strong>Save As<\/strong><br \/>\n4. Save the file with the name <strong>ReserveWin10.cmd<\/strong><br \/>\n5. Click the<strong> dropdown menu<\/strong> next to Save as type, select<strong> All Files (*. *)<\/strong><br \/>\n6. Select a folder to save the file. For simplicities sake we will use <strong>C:\/Temp<\/strong>. Then <strong>click Save<\/strong>.<br \/>\n7. On the home screen or menu, type <strong>Command Prompt <\/strong>in the search box. Then, in the list of results, <strong>right-click Command Prompt<\/strong> and <strong>choose Run as administrator<\/strong><br \/>\n8. Run the file you created in Step 6.
