If you\u2019re a Pok\u00e9mon Go player in iOS and you can\u2019t upgrade to iOS 11 you\u2019re in a for a nasty surprise<\/strong>. Niantic have announced that following an upcoming update it\u2019ll no longer be supporting Pok\u00e9mon Go on devices that aren\u2019t capable of upgrading to iOS 11<\/strong>. Niantic said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis change is a result of improvements to Pok\u00e9mon GO that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

For those affected this rather nasty change will come into effect on 28th<\/sup> February 2018<\/strong>. Users with iPhones or iPads that can\u2019t upgrade will no longer be able to access their Pok\u00e9mon Go accounts from that device and will need to switch to a supported device to continue playing Pok\u00e9mon Go<\/strong>. A pretty harsh announcement just after Christmas, as most kids will have just seen their best chance of a new mobile pass them by.<\/p>\n

Niantic have been held back somewhat by support for older devices as Apple\u2019s new ARKit technology offers some really interesting possibilities going into the future<\/strong>. It is bad news for those who won\u2019t make the cut but for anybody still playing Pok\u00e9mon Go on a newer device there could be some exciting times ahead.<\/p>\n
