It looks like a minor update: a few small changes over here, an easier way to share content over there… But the people at 9to5Google have figured out that Chrome 65 has a feature Google hasn’t explained: you can no longer take screenshots when using Incognito Mode.

This notification will pop up if you try to take a screenshot in Incognito Mode:

In theory, this update makes sense. Incognito Mode was created so you can visit pages with sensitive information, whether about medical conditions, or… uh… for adult reasons. You don’t want your browsing history of these pages to be kept. Specifically, you don’t want your history, cookies, or any form data to be saved.

Imagine that you accidentally take a screenshot. That could put your privacy at risk. That’s why it makes sense that Chrome introduced this restriction. Though it’s very strange that Google hasn’t explained it.

By the way, a little reminder: browsing in Incognito Mode or similar modes on other browsers doesn’t stop pages from knowing that you’ve visited them. Same if you’re browsing at work. These modes are only good for concealing your privacy at home.

        Google Chrome
        Download Google Chrome Now

        <text class="rating-score__number" content="7" text-anchor="middle" transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 25 31.0837)" data-auto="app-user-score">7</text>

Chrome is a young, fast browser that can browse any web page.
