Firefox is capitalizing on Facebook\u2019s crisis by promoting itself as the savior of the Internet: <\/span>the browser has announced an extension that isolates Facebook to a special tab.<\/b> This tab-prison prevents the social network from collecting data on the pages you visit and hammering you with personalized ads. <\/span><\/p>\n

The extension is called <\/span>Facebook Container<\/span><\/a>. If you go on Facebook using the Container or if you click Facebook buttons on other pages <\/span>(such as the Share button)<\/b>, this special, blue-colored tab will open. And if you\u2019re on the tab and click on a link that takes you off Facebook, that page will open in a normal tab. <\/span><\/p>\n

Facebook \u201cfollows\u201d you when you leave the social network to find out <\/span>what kind of products and services you like. <\/b>This way, it serves you ads that you\u2019re more likely to click. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe pages you visit on the web can say a lot about you,\u201d warns Mozilla, the company behind Firefox. \u201cThey can infer where you live, the hobbies you have, and your political persuasion. There\u2019s enormous value in tying this data to your social profile, and Facebook has a network of trackers on various websites. <\/span>This code tracks you invisibly and it is often impossible to determine when this data is being shared.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

Mozilla has already clarified that this extension wouldn\u2019t prevent <\/span>another scandal like Cambridge Analytica.<\/b> However, it\u2019s a useful tool for those who won\u2019t delete their Facebook account because they use it on a daily basis, but are afraid of being spied on. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mozilla\u2019s aim with this extension is to promote itself and <\/span>get more users onto Firefox.<\/b> Before releasing the Container, Mozilla announced that it would withdraw ads from Facebook and send several emails to clients criticizing Facebook. <\/span><\/p>\n
