This will also include any license keys for Windows 10. The only other version of the operating system that lasted longer was Windows XP, which ran supported for almost 14 years. Throughout the history of these various OS, we\u2019ve learned that <strong>stopping sales<\/strong> is Microsoft\u2019s <strong>way of preparing users<\/strong> for the end of its lifespan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once <strong>sales are halted on January 31st<\/strong>, more focus will go into <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/windows-11-in-2023-what-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Windows 11<\/a> and making the improvements needed on the new OS. However, security patches and bug fixes will still come to Windows 10 until it reaches the <strong>end of its support date in 2025<\/strong>. At the moment, it\u2019s not clear whether sales of Windows 10 will also be halted with other retailers and OEMs, or if it\u2019s just from the Microsoft site directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/Microsoft-to-Stop-Selling-Windows-10-on-January-31st.jpg\" alt=\"Microsoft to Stop Selling Windows 10 on January 31st\" class=\"wp-image-210708\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This announcement effectively means that Windows <strong>users have two options<\/strong>, buy Windows 10 within the next few days before sales stop, or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/update-windows-10-to-windows-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">upgrade to Windows 11<\/a>. There are a few challenges with each of these options for users to consider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Windows 10 is a decent operating system where most of the <strong>bugs have already been sorted<\/strong>, if you were to buy it now, you\u2019ll have <strong>less than three years<\/strong> that you can use the OS before having to upgrade. However, upgrading to Windows 11 is turning out to be <strong>quite a challenge<\/strong>. The system requirements for Windows 11 are quite demanding, meaning that <strong>many users&#8217; current systems can\u2019t support<\/strong> the new OS unless they own a top-of-the-range device. Windows 11 does include some <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/exciting-features-coming-windows-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exciting features<\/a> which might motivate users to upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Windows 10 received a <strong>generally good response<\/strong> from users when it was first released. However, some of the criticisms that the OS received were related to the <strong>number of advertising facilities<\/strong> on the OS. Some outlets even consider these advertisements as a \u2018hidden cost\u2019 of upgrading to the system for free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, once users got over the advertisements, the OS worked very well.<br>Microsoft is pushing users to upgrade to Windows 11 by stopping sales of Windows 10 and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/forever-windows-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ending support for Windows 7<\/a>.
