Paramount+<\/a> a annonc\u00e9 aujourd\u2019hui avoir donn\u00e9 son feu vert \u00e0 Laird<\/strong>, une nouvelle s\u00e9rie dramatique port\u00e9e par Kenneth Branagh. D\u2019apr\u00e8s le synopsis diffus\u00e9 par Paramount+, l\u2019acteur y jouera le laird de Castle Drummoch, un riche propri\u00e9taire terrien \u00e9cossais bien d\u00e9cid\u00e9 \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger son domaine ancestral dans les Highlands face \u00e0 un milliardaire am\u00e9ricain pr\u00eat \u00e0 tout pour le lui racheter.<\/p>\n

On voit assez bien ce que le projet cherche. Au moment o\u00f9 Yellowstone<\/a><\/strong>, la s\u00e9rie cr\u00e9\u00e9e par Taylor Sheridan, arrive au bout de sa trajectoire dans sa forme initiale, Paramount+ semble vouloir relancer un autre grand r\u00e9cit de pouvoir, de famille et de territoire. Et Laird a d\u00e9j\u00e0 les bons ingr\u00e9dients: un patriarche, une terre menac\u00e9e, et une pression venue de l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur.<\/p>\n\n

Le conflit central fait forc\u00e9ment penser au grand succ\u00e8s de Taylor Sheridan. Comme John Dutton dans Yellowstone<\/a>, le personnage de Kenneth Branagh se retrouve au milieu d\u2019un affrontement o\u00f9 se m\u00ealent h\u00e9ritage familial<\/strong> , identit\u00e9, pouvoir \u00e9conomique et int\u00e9r\u00eats ext\u00e9rieurs. Paramount+ pr\u00e9sente aussi Laird comme une grande saga familiale, avec des querelles de famille, des secrets enfouis, des histoires d\u2019amour et, plus largement, une r\u00e9flexion sur la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 fonci\u00e8re dans l\u2019\u00c9cosse moderne.<\/p>\n\n

C\u2019est peut-\u00eatre l\u00e0 que la s\u00e9rie peut vraiment trouver sa propre couleur. L\u00e0 o\u00f9 Yellowstone<\/strong> s\u2019appuyait sur tout l\u2019imaginaire du ranch am\u00e9ricain, Laird veut manifestement miser sur les Highlands, les vieilles lign\u00e9es et le poids de l\u2019histoire, avec une sensibilit\u00e9 plus britannique, sans l\u00e2cher pour autant les ressorts du grand drame populaire.<\/p>\n\n

Le choix de Kenneth Branagh apporte tout de suite une forme de prestige au projet. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9criture, on retrouve Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth et Georgia Lee, tandis que Joe Wright r\u00e9alisera le pilote. Et un autre d\u00e9tail, plus discret, renforce encore le parall\u00e8le avec Yellowstone: Laird<\/strong> est produit par Paramount Television Studios et 101 Studios, qui produit aussi la s\u00e9rie d\u2019origine.<\/p>\n\n

Aucune date de sortie<\/a><\/strong> n\u2019a encore \u00e9t\u00e9 annonc\u00e9e par Paramount+. Mieux vaut donc rester prudent. Mais le calendrier, lui, n\u2019a rien d\u2019anodin: l\u2019annonce tombe au moment o\u00f9 Yellowstone se termine, alors m\u00eame que son univers continue de s\u2019\u00e9tendre \u00e0 travers plusieurs spin-offs. Pour Paramount+, Laird ressemble donc \u00e0 un pari assez naturel pour profiter de l\u2019app\u00e9tit du public pour les grandes fresques familiales<\/a> sous tension, tout en changeant de d\u00e9cor.
