Don’t like any photos to put on your social media profiles? Try using AI. The world of image-generating AI has left us with very useful and versatile tools for creating completely personalized photos and profile pictures.
On the one hand, we have very popular image-generating AIs, such as DALL-E or Midjourney, but we also have apps like Lensa, specialized in creating “magical avatars” with which you will be able to stand out from the rest.
But this will be even easier in the future. According to a leak reported by The Verge, TikTok is developing a function with which we will be able to create profile pictures generated by artificial intelligence. The author of the leak is Matt Navarra, an expert in social networks who has shared on his Twitter a video and a series of images where we can see this AI tool in action.
Here’s how it works: the TikTok feature asks you to upload three to ten photos of yourself and then choose between two and five different styles. After taking its time (something very typical of image-generative AIs), the AI will generate several avatars, which we can use as our profile picture, download them or even post them as stories on TikTok.
The examples published by Matt Navarra are very striking: from an image with an aesthetic clearly inspired by Fortnite, to portrait-like images that make use of a wide range of colors, to more realistic photos that work as a kind of “beauty filter“, making us more “handsome” (according to certain canons of beauty, of course).
Another striking detail of the screenshots published by Matt Navarra is the warning that pops up when you select the styles you want to use: “You are using the only time you can use Plus daily”. Would TikTok be working on a subscription model called TikTok Plus and avatar generation would be one of its advantages?
Seeing that there are more and more social networks interested in introducing and promoting subscription models as an alternative way of monetization, it would be a logical step for one of the most popular apps like TikTok to take the step of including one of its own. Elon Musk is constantly doing things to “incentivize” people to use Twitter Blue, and Meta introduced its own paid verification earlier this month.
But TikTok is not the only social network that will “play” with AI and personalized avatars in this way. Snapchat took advantage of the announcement a few days ago, in which it announced that its chatbot My AI will be available to all users, to also advance some of the functions that this AI will have in the future, such as the ability to change the appearance and name of its chatbots with a personalized Bitmoji avatar.
