We’ve been seeing artificial intelligence take several leaps forward in the world of art and digital creations. Up until now, you’ve seen the news about DALL-E 2 and the latest A.I. features, while Stable Diffusion has also had some spotlight. The latest trend is LENSA, which lets you create a spectacular avatar based on your photo.
I first noticed LENSA’s artwork on Instagram and then TikTok. Don’t judge me; I have both platforms for my author brand. I don’t have a bad voice or guitar skills either. Gloating aside, I’ve been seeing celebrities and peasants alike sharing several avatars based on their faces. I must admit, it looks outstanding, and I’m tempted to try it out for myself.
It’s becoming more apparent how much A.I. is going to play a role in our future. Let’s head back to me being an author. Many writers and publishers pay to have someone develop a book cover for them to make it more appealing to potential buyers. Do we still need to when we can ask A.I. to generate one based on our facial or other features?
At least something like LENSA will make our profile photos stand out more. Of course, there’s still the discussion on whether or not we can copyright A.I. generated content. When it comes to avatars based on our faces, I’m pretty sure we can. Why would we allow someone else to use our precious avatars and place them on commercial properties without our permission?
The only factor about LENSA that may make you think twice about using it is that you need to pay for a batch of avatars. The free version only lets you try three. That’s probably why celebrities are going mad making them, as they can afford to pay for these digital transformations. Despite this payment profile, the A.I. app is still trending.
Elon Musk is at it again, and this time, he’s addressing the freedom of speech notion he toted from before he took over Twitter. In one of his latest acts, he’s addressing the policy that governs misinformation about COVID. Not only is it now allowed, but he’s reinstating thousands of accounts that were suspended due to sharing incorrect news about the pandemic before.
This COVID misinformation policy came into being in 2020 when the pandemic struck the planet. There were so many people spreading posts on Twitter about the virus being a scam or a government plot to take over the world, the platform decided to take action. If you issued Tweets that were misleading, your account was suspended.
Enter Elon Musk and his life-long dream to promote free speech. If you head to the policy page now, it says the following:
“Effective November 23, 2022, Twitter is no longer enforcing the COVID-19 misleading information policy.”
Not only can you now happily spread misleading information on COVID, but Musk is busy restoring thousands of Twitter accounts that were suspended. There are some that have over a million followers. I’m sure the owners of those accounts will be glad they don’t have to fight to get all those followers back again.
In one of our recent articles, we mentioned that Apple wants to divorce Twitter due to Musk’s intentions to promote freedom of speech. I wonder what they think about this latest move. After cleaning Twitter headquarters from almost half the staff, like Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, he’s making sure that everyone can say what they want.
What fascinates me is that Musk’s double standards are already starting to show. He wants freedom of speech but is culling the platform of porn-related accounts and content. Not only that, but he’s quickly cleaning out parody accounts. Why? Because his massive fanbase wants it that way.
Is it just me, or is Meta playing Monkey See, Monkey Do? It wasn’t long after Twitter cut its workforce in half when the Facebook company did the same thing. It looks like Meta is also investigating its COVID-related policies. Perhaps Zuckerberg thinks Musk is a genius and is following his example?
If you haven’t heard of Post News, you’re one of the many that haven’t. It’s a brand new platform that only appeared about two weeks ago, unlike Hive and Mastodon, which have been around for a while. It looks like it’s similar to what Twitter is, except that you might have to pay to read journalistic articles.
When Elon Musk took over Twitter, many users ran for the hills to social platforms like Hive and Mastodon. The developers of Post News saw the brilliant opportunity to make a portal that’s like Twitter, but not. All it needed was funding for the launch, which it received from a16z.
So now that you have the boring facts, here’s the interesting part. The investors, a16z, played a massive part in Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. It contributed about $400 million to make sure that happened, so why is it helping Post News in launching an alternative? Not only that, but one of the members of a16z is basically best buddies with Elon at Twitter, in that they work very close together.
The founder of Post News is Noam Bardin. If you’re wondering if there’s a conflict of interest here, Bardin doesn’t seem to think so in his latest Post news article. Just because they funded the platform, it doesn’t mean that he agrees with them funding Twitter or any of their principles. It’s strange to me that a16z would fund a competitive platform… or maybe, that’s how they get a return on investment. Fighting between the two social networks means more funds for them.
In any event, Post News is only in the beta phase now. You can sign up, but there’s a massive waiting line for people ready to move over from Twitter. If you want to subscribe to a news publisher, you’ll need to pay with a subscription, which is how the publishers will earn money for their hard-earned journalism. It will be interesting to see how this progresses.
