Two years ago, Warner Bros. thought it was a great idea to release the second part of Space Jam, a 1996 film that marked an entire generation of children. With the excuse of nostalgia and trying to adapt the idea to the new times, Warner ended up releasing this film starring LeBron James that ended up becoming a small failure.
However, this hasn’t seemed to scare Warner too much, and it already has new plans for the Looney Tunes. As reported by Screen Rant, the company is working on a new Bugs Bunny movie, and this time it will be a live action that will mix CGI for the character with live action.
Just as Sonic has done with great success, the studio would be trying to revalue one of its best-known brands, which became popular thanks to the short films of the 30s and has had dozens of appearances in the rest of the company’s history. No further details are available yet, but it seems to be a smart strategy to re-capitalize the Looney Tunes.
An untimely leak
The news leak comes from Robert Rugan, director and screenwriter of films such as The Curse of Bridge Hollow and Alice’s Misadventures in Wonderland. On his website, the author announced that he has been “hired to write a new Bugs Bunny live-action/animated Bugs Bunny mix film for Warner.”
Rugan apparently deleted the post shortly thereafter, most likely after the studio’s notice of confidentiality, but the news has now spread and it’s clear that it looks like it’s more than just a rumor. We’ll see if it ends up being carried out, what is clear is that they will have to make an effort so that it is not a new Space Jam 2.
