Celebrating Fair Play: Call of Duty Unveils Revolutionary Anti-Cheat System

Ricochet, owned by Activision, will now notify Call of Duty lobbies when a cheater has been kicked from a match.

That enemy who sees through walls, the other one who kills you even when you’re in cover. The one who never misses a shot or the one who’s immortal. Cheats and hacks are synonymous with CoD, that’s why Activision wants to put an end to them.

There’s nothing worse in an online multiplayer room of Call of Duty than facing a cheater who ruins the match, but now players can delight in the satisfaction of seeing them kicked out in real-time.

The anti-cheat system called Ricochet, owned by Activision, will now notify Call of Duty rooms when a cheater has been ejected from a match. It’s the latest step in the battle to rid PC games of cheaters.

System arrives for CoD Season 5

Real-time ban notifications have been added to the fifth season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0, which started on Wednesday and also includes the ability to equip a dog.

Activision has been actively targeting cheaters for some time now, issuing a stern warning a few years ago: “Cheaters are not welcome.”

The Ricochet anti-cheat system arrived in 2021 with a kernel-level driver designed to detect PC cheaters, exclusively developed for the Call of Duty franchise by Activision.

It’s a continuous game of cat and mouse to catch cheaters and the methods developers use to evade anti-cheat systems.

This has led Call of Duty to make legitimate players invisible to cheaters, enable an automatic god mode to wipe out cheaters, and even take strict actions against third-party hardware devices like XIM, Cronus Zen, and ReaSnow S1.

These hardware devices are becoming increasingly popular as they are designed to be undetectable and provide mouse and keyboard users with the aiming assistance advantages of a controller mixed with the movement advantages of a mouse and keyboard.

The most common cheats in CoD

Indeed, the major issues persist with aimbots and wallhacks, which have seen an increase in popularity in recent years.

Aimbots allow cheaters to automatically lock onto the heads of their opponents, enabling them to shoot and eliminate you instantly.

On the other hand, wallhacks expose everyone on the map, allowing cheaters to see exactly where you are, even if you are in cover or hiding.

Developers continue to battle against these types of cheaters, but it remains a challenging task. There is still hope that Microsoft may eventually step in to take control of their Windows environment for PC gaming, providing additional measures to combat cheating.

It is the platform on which the vast majority of PC games run, but its openness allows cheaters to easily develop solutions.

Microsoft has created a new security chip called Pluton, designed to protect future Windows PCs with security similar to that of Xbox. However, the Windows developer has not yet announced any plans to link Pluton to an anti-cheat system. Hopefully, they will do so in the future.
