The game will supposedly launch in 2025 via the rumored, but still unofficial, successor to the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2.
For me, it’s Nintendo’s most polished game in the last decade. Yes, there have been great releases, wonderful games, but how well Mario Kart 8 turned out is evidenced by its year after year status as the best-selling title on the entire console.
According to reports coming from the US, the next Mario Kart game is in development at Nintendo. It’s called Mario Kart X and is one of the most expensive games Nintendo has ever made.
When one thinks of racing games, Nintendo might not come to mind. That seems to be the realm of Forza and Gran Turismo. However, the reality is that Mario Kart 8 on Wii U and later on Nintendo Switch is the best-selling game Nintendo has ever made, nearing almost 60 million units sold.
Developed by the usual team, but with a larger budget
The report comes from Zippo, a well-known Nintendo insider, who claims that the game is once again being worked on by Nintendo’s in-house team, Nintendo EPD Production Group 9, with Bandai Namco Studios as a co-developer, just like in the previous installment of the series.
“Moreover, Nintendo won’t spare expenses on this game,” adds Zippo. Apparently, this is one of the most expensive games Nintendo has ever produced.
They also say that the upcoming 3D Mario title will be “absolutely stunning,” and apparently, this one looks even better. It’s said that “the visual fidelity of the game is a very high priority for them, which means the game is going to look good, really good.”
Supposedly, the game is set to be released in 2025 through the rumored, yet unofficial, successor to the Nintendo Switch, tentatively dubbed by many as the Nintendo Switch 2. If this is true, there’s a high likelihood it will be unveiled next year.
Either way, Nintendo will likely aim to release it quite close to the console’s launch, as it’s expected to be a major console seller.
That said, it’s essential to approach all this information cautiously. It’s unofficial and, even if entirely or mostly accurate now, it could change over time.
