Finally, we know why the Empire is searching for Baby Yoda in Star Wars

Although The Bad Batch focuses on Clone Force 99 and the events directly following the rise of the Galactic Empire, the series is…

Five years have passed since Grogu’s debut in The Mandalorian, and it had to be the series Star Wars: The Bad Batch that finally gave Star Wars the opportunity to explain why he is being sought after by the Empire.

Although The Bad Batch focuses on Clone Force 99 and the events that directly followed the rise of the Galactic Empire after Order 66, the animated series has been connecting with The Mandalorian since the first season.

Now, season 3 of The Bad Batch (in English) has doubled down on these connections and is helping to explain vital aspects of the live-action series, especially when it comes to cloning.

Grogu is wanted for his high midichlorian count

The premiere of the third season of Bad Batch revealed that Omega’s blood can withstand a high “M count” transfer without degrading the specimen. Although the audience knows that M counts are midi-chlorians, the characters do not have that same luxury, so they are unaware that Omega is vital to the Nigromante Project, Emperor Palpatine’s contingency plan to clone himself which ultimately leads to his return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The story of Omega runs parallel to that of Grogu himself, and since then it has allowed Star Wars to explain a vital aspect of its history.

Episode 8 of the third season of The Bad Batch, titled “Bad Territory,” has finally confirmed that the Empire offered rewards to individuals with a high M count. Like the Imperial Inquisitors, these bounty hunters were meant to hunt down individuals with high M counts, who were either confirmed to be Force-sensitive or had the potential to sustain the transfer, for the Empire and its experimentation in the Nigromante Project.

These M-count rewards were of extremely high value, making them attractive to bounty hunters, as seen in The Mandalorian with Grogu.
